Offline ...according to his twitter. ok this is getting carried away. he's not lebron james; just announce it. he's loving the attention. Offline I'm honestly not sure if he's made his mind up. Offline He appears to be religious and may wish to make his choice known on Easter. Go Dukes! Offline It's got to be a tough decision. It depends on what he's looking for: Playing time, exposure, size of the school, quality of the school, size of the city, what to major in, team chemistry, style of play, possibly getting recruited over, coaching, friends (we hope), close to home, competion, chances of success, both schools are trying to turn their programs around, and probably a lot of things I haven't even thought about. Good luck in making the decision with so many factors to think about. That being said, I hope he picks Duquesne, because he could be a real force in turning things around if he becomes the go-to guy. It would be nice if Duquesne would be forced to play all their games in the Consol. We'll see tomorrow. Duquesne does not have all the bells @ whistles especially in 2013 that State Schools can offer BUT I would suggest this coaching staff google fletcher Johnson Obit NY post story Peter Vecey. Thanks to Sam Astorino God Rest His Soul Duquesne was a basketball power for one reason they accepted recruited @ eduacated African Americans unlike the current State Southern schools. Even Georgetown south of mason dixon line refused inclusion. Chuck Cooper quite frankly Duquesne has yet to get this story out nationally yes PNC @ CONSOL. BUT THE STORY OF DR. FLETCHER in my opinion rivals the great Jackie Robinson. The recruiting wars are no doubt brutal dirty we can go on.Maybe this current staff can point to Duquesne University & its history with African American basketball players & students thru the Spiritans. Trust me I just got back from South Carolina the civil war still lingers. Good luck with this recruit. Johnson talked about the glory days, but also mentioned the flack that Dudey Moore got for having so many black players. Maurice Stokes wanted very badly to be a Duke, but Moore just couldn't take him with Si Green, both Ricketts, Johnson, and Tucker already on the team. I believe this played a role in the decision to deemphasize basketball in the late 50's. Offline Ok, I am a younger alum (almost 50...yikes) and don't remember the glory years, but I have heard throughout the years that race did play a factor in the de-emphasizing of basketball for another sad, ugly reason that is unfortunately a product of that earlier time. Offline Armaan Ahluwalia@Armaan_NPH9mDuane Notice (NPH #4 ranked 2013 Canadian) will make his decision tonight between Duquesne or South Carolina Last edited by CLK (3/31/2013 11:52 am) Offline Tejas, if it is or was, I would hope it was because young African-American women selected other schools, and not because Duquesne excluded them. I have no way of knowing; however, even when I was a student (and yes I am older than you), there were some very attractive African-American women on campus, as well as students from all over the world, but the numbers were not very high. One of my first friends on campus was a young lady from Haiti, and another was actually originally from my home town, which was about as diverse as anyplace in America at the time. Offline I don't think that was what he was getting at. The prevailing attitude at the time (although I was born in 1957, so 2nd or 3rd hand info) frowned on inter-racial dating, which just might have been the issue. Just a guess. I doubt they Duquesne excluded anyone. First, women did not go to college in anything approaching the current numbers back them. Secondly, prior to Pell Grants, and such, college was largely for the more prosperous classes. The GI Bill was a big deal back then, because it allowed thousands of "regular guys" to attend college, which hadn't been the case before. There wouldn't have been that many women at Duquesne back then, and few of them would have been black. Duq81 maybe true but how many african americans @ the time were on Georgetowns Pitt South Carolina Fla ohio State Kentucky on @ on you fill in the rest. I was told Dudey More had a bad drinking problem fought with the Spiritans on a weekly basis. Who ofcourse owned the University. He went to LaSalle did not last long burned & hung in effigy.Nothing to do with de-emphasizing the recruitment of African Americans although I am sure the University always had concerns for a quota system. Unfortunately that were the times. As Sam Astorino said the downful for Duquesnse basketball was civil rights without Martin Luther King Alabama Kentucky Georgetown may have stayed segregated for another 5-10 years. In that era Duquesne University was a leader in college basketball! There is so much truth in this. Those players were "low hanging fruit". I can give you two examples of this. In baseball, the National League was much quicker to incorporate black, and afro-latino players into the mix. With the extra talent, the National League became much superior to the American League from the mid 50's, until the mid 70's. In hockey, the Canadian teams resisted going after European talent. They haven't won a Stanley Cup in 20 years. It's a major advantage to have access to a talent pool that others can't or won't use. Offline I don't think that was what he was getting at. My point is can this staff point to this history in a positive manner or does anyone really care? 42 should be a big hit this spring & hopefullysomeday there becomes a movie about 21 for the latinos. Using facts & history about Duquesne being in the forefront of college basketball could maybe sway a kid in his decision. But again my thread began with Fletcher Johnson self taughtin Italian while playing in Europe gets Pharmacy degree then learns french then gets medical degree goes back to the states were he becomes a thoracic surgeon in ny/nj area.. are you kidding me. That to me is greatness & Duquesne University never tells this story . Offline Pat Lawless@GiveNGobball4mI confirmed with Duane Notice, '13 St Thomas More (CT), that he'll still be making his decision tonight. Down to South Carolina and Duquesne

To be PC, I'll just say it had to do with the lack of single African American females on campus. Any truth to this older guys?

Does not specify a time.
Re: Notice to delay until 2 Sunday...
I still look to forward to the day when we don't have to think about such things.

Yes, sadly that was where I was going with that. I heard from some parents and older alumni that many on campus, and sadly some of the "stuck in the dark ages" of the administration frowned on those players dating white girls.
