Now why would you say that?

Re: Candidates for the DU women's head coaching position

GA didn't call SMS first.  He played games with her and made her call him.  I have no confidence in his hiring abilities.   I'm still surprised Burt isn't in the mix.

Lets hope we hear Monday that it is Darcie.  The Stetson coach seems to have a failed run at Ohio U on her resume.  I think she was head coach there for 7 years.

That being said even if a coach was hired today it would be a bad day to announce it.  Not that it is front sports page news ever but with the Steelers draft and Sid returning to practice today it would not even get on the radio.

Re: Candidates for the DU women's head coaching position

I guess every coach who's been at Ohio at some point of his or her career feels obligated to send a resume here ...

Maybe we'll announce something at 5:15 today, he said only half-kiddingly.

As I recall when Suzie's name was mentioned in the newspapers as a possible candidate for the Penn State women's basketball head coach vacancy in 2007, I believe that it was Penn State's assistant AD who commented when asked if Suzie was being considered that PS would only consider candidates who had NCAA coaching experience.  Penn State hired then Notre Dame Assistant Coach Coquese Washington who still remains as Penn State's very successful head coach.

At that time Suzie had never coached at the NCAA level.  In 2007 if Greg Amodio hadn't initially thought of Suzie as a serious candidate for Duquesne's head coaching job after he fired Durkin, Amodio would not have been the only person in a D-1 college athletic department to feel that way.  Eventually Suzie was encouraged by her husband, I believe, to call Amodio; and it proved to pave the way for Suzie's hiring.  As I read the account of the press conference held to announce Suzie's hiring on April 13, 2007 (
http://www.goduquesne.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/041307aas.html), I don't see any evidence that Amodio "played games with her" as you claim.  The result was he did make the decision to hire Suzie even athough she had no NCAA coaching experience, and she turned out to be the most successful women's basketball coach that Duquesne has ever had.  Give the man some credit for that decision instead of your constant bashing.  Hopefully Duquesne is close to making the announcement of its new women's basketball coach, and the best available experienced person will be selected.

Re: Candidates for the DU women's head coaching position

Whatever.   He didn't call her even though despite your protests she was the obvious candidate of choice at the time.   You are making it seem like a former Olympian that was WNBA coach was some sort of reach.

Yes, constant bashing. That is me.  Again whatever.

Let's not allow the facts to interfere with your disgruntlement.

I'm quite aware of Suzie's qualifications for a coaching position at the college level with her background as a NCAA 1st team All-American at Penn State, Olympic player, and WNBA player, a tremendously successful high school coach, and WNBA coach.  I had thought she should have been Dan Durkin's replacement several years before Dan was fired.  But if the perceived head coaching job qualifications were that the hire must have coached at the NCAA level, that was the only credential at the time that was missing from Suzie's basketball expereince.

I think we both want Duquesne to hire the best coach available.  I don't have any inside knowlege as to who applied for the job and who was interviewed.  I also don't know if some of the final candidates didn't go back to their current schools and used this interview process to bargin for a big boost in their salary to stay put.  I think Darcie Vincent would be a fine choice, but that doesn't meam that there aren't some other very good candidates whose names we don't know at this time.  I think that Amodio
knows that he has to select somone who can build upon the program that Suzie established on the Bluff.

Re: Candidates for the DU women's head coaching position

I guess it is Dan Burt by the looks of this:

Dejan Kovacevic ✅ ‏@Dejan_Kovacevic Here’s background on Dan Burt, soon to be announced as new #Duquesne women’s hoops coach: http://www.goduquesne.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/burt_dan00.html … #Dukes

Dejan also said that the former coach was staying here.

I was hoping for Burt along.  So I'm good with this.

Congrats GA.

Re: Candidates for the DU women's head coaching position

I'd have preferred Vincent, as an assistant is always a bigger gamble than someone with a track record as a head coach, but if we couldn't get her, Burt was my second choice.

Re: Candidates for the DU women's head coaching position

It must be true.  Twitter tends to tell alot.  EJ Borghetti, the Pitt SID is no longer following Dan Burt on Burt's Twitter account.  Right before the former coach left he was following Burt on Twitter.  So was Pitt Sports and other official Pitt accounts.  They have all unfollowed him.

Also the former coach posted a pic yesterday with. her and Carmen Bruce and Lindsey Richards in Pitt gear.  No Dan Burt in the picture.
