Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

Phoenix if I'm reading this correctly St Bonaventure is number one in the conference in offensive rebounds and we are number 14. Maybe this somewhat explains the matchup situation and problems we have with st. Bonaventure

1111 Vickroy, the Bonnies are #1 on the defensive side; they are best in not giving up offensive rebounds to their opponent, reducing second chance opportunities. Just the opposite of the Dukes who allow too many second chance opportunities. FWIW, the Bonnies are #5 on the offensive boards.

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

Since we haven’t beaten them since Moses walked the earth, I don’t look for tonight to be any different.  If we can’t get the ball on rebounds for second shots it just can’t work.  The only way I see us winning is if....

we can get strong production from Austin and Norman.  This is not a negative comment on those two players, and we all understand Austin’s difficult year and God Bless Him.    But it is difficult to win when a team has two starters who do not produce a lot.  We also need Steele to have a strong game as he can.  Finally, I am not angry at all.  I just haven’t seen the Dukes beat them in a long while and DAMBROT has never beaten them, so I don’t expect the Dukes to win tonight.  WIth that said, I Sure hope I am wrong!!!!!   Please Duquesne, prove my prediction wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!    Go Dukes

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

It's rug cuttin time. Are we a good team or not? We've lost 6 of 8, is this the year we take a big step forward, or is it another case of the usual Duquesne late season slide? Time to write a different ending to the season, it starts tonight. Let's go Dukes!!

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

Sounds like we will need to make some threes to win tonight, but more than anything we need to take care of the glass. They killed us on the glass last time, getting almost half of their misses. In a three point game, that's huge. Sure it's at their place, but they just lost by Davidson at home by 29, plus they lost to Vermont and Ohio by double digits at home. There's no reason we can't win this game. Play the way we did against Dayton in an even tougher arena and we will. Dukes 66 Bonnies 65.

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

Dang, -3.5 at St Bona.   Yikes!   I gotta do it again, taking the Bonnies.   Last time I saw a deal like this, I took SLU, and the Dukes clobbered them out there.

Either I break even tonight, or the 2 wins will be expensive to me.   I'm fine with each.

Down to 3 pts.   People must like the Dukes tonight.

BINGO!  You nailed it right there.  Hopefully Dambrot and company will pick that up [maybe take another approach to rebounding] and get some extra possessions.  However 'ya gotta score when you get the extra possessions!'   Taking ill-conceived 3 point shot misses ain't gonna hack it.  You have to make the 2nd chance shots, and the turnover shots and the foul shots...  ST BONA SURE WILL...

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

This is going to be a game for brutes tonight. Hopefully the refs allow them to play but we need production from Hughes and especially Marcus who underperformed at RMU. If the shots drop from outside and we stay under control with the fouls and perform down low I do not see us losing this game. It's not going to be easy at all but last matchup the Bonnies shot the leather off the ball and hit the clutch shots at the end. If it comes down to another late game scenario where every possession is huge I hope Dambrot runs good plays and makes good strategic calls regarding the clock and fouls because this year he has lacked in that category.

Excellent first half. Keep it going!!

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

We are due for a good 2nd half start. Coach has done a little more subbing and Rotroff giving some good minutes.

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

So exciting to see Rotroff doing work!

Keep up the energy, hit some fouls shots, keep it up on the boards & this one is a win.

Please don't break our hearts in the 2nd.

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

I like the defense and using Rotroff and Buckley. We used 9 which is very good.
If the energy holds, we got a good chance to win.

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

Rhode Island ahead at half- we lost
Dayton ahead at half- we lost
If we don't put two halves together, being ahead at the half means nothing.
Part of that IS coaching...will the Bonnies coach outcoach Dambrot again?

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

What do we do in the locker room that brings us out flat every game?

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

Arggghhhhh!!! Call a timeout & settle them down BEFORE the opposition gets truly rolling.

This has to stop. These players aren't ready to work through the problems on their own. It's like groundhog's Day.

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

Or maybe it'll be like the St. Louis road game, where the Billikens kept making runs and we kept holding them off and pulling away again. A guy can hope...

Carry making some bonehead plays.

Re: Game Thread - St. Bonaventure Bonnies (A)

And the bad old Dukes return. The unforced turnovers, the missed layups, the 30-footers, the inability to box out.

Yes, it's tough to watch. This is a game they had a good chance to win.
