Offline I am an analyst by trade and a big numbers guy and recently wanted to get a gauge on freshman seasons to see who were some of our most impactful freshman since TJs class, which was also my freshman year at Duquesne. Offline Here is the stat line for the average Dukes freshman season (average of all 46 freshman seasons) since 2010: Offline Here are the top 15 freshman seasons since 2010 in average points per game. This one jumped out at me--10 out of these 15 players transferred from Duquesne. 3 Guys are still here so that number could end up looking worse. Tough to build a program when you have lost basically all of your top freshman for the last 10 years. Dukes Freshman since 2010
To capture this data and look at it a number of different ways I plotted out each non walk-on’s freshman season since 2010 (46 players total), to get an idea on trends, averages, and build out “comps” or seasons to compare players. Gives a good picture on how last years freshman crop compares to some of the guys we brought in over the last ten years.
Hate to say it but the numbers tell some pretty harrowing details and may help to explain why we have seen the turbulence we have over the past 10 years as it relates to continuity within the program. I will post findings below and make the spreadsheet available for anyone interested in looking at the data themselves.
Re: Dukes Freshman since 2010
22.3 games played, 7.6 games started, 13.8 minutes/game
4.35 pts, 2.07 rebs, 0.90 asts/game, 0.85 a/to, 0.48 stls, 0.26 blocks
39.38% FG, 25.90% 3FG, 57.46% FT
Not a super impactful player.

(Very sad about all of the transfers - that is a SYSTEMS problem - something has been wrong for a while.)
Here's a challenge...which coaches have had the most transfers out of that list and which ones have had the least?

Regarding scholarships, that is a total moving target so no projection there. You have guys that were not on scholarship last year that may or may not be this year, as well as more inevitable outgoings.
My guess is we lose multiple more names and bring in as many. •Thread Starter
Re: Dukes Freshman since 2010
-Transfers are a major problem for this program, but that rate is trending in the right direction.
-Whether they played more out of necessity or some other reason, it seems Ferry brought in better freshman production (didn't say talent) than Dambrot has to this point. KD has leaned on transfers here, so no big surprise there. All of Dambrots best players (sans Carry) have been upper classmen. This may lend well to the new transfer environment.
-Rotroff's freshman stats and the eye test his freshman year suggests there is a good player in there somewhere. Whether the knee or his confidence from the injury have all but destroyed that potential, we may or may not have the opportunity to find out next year, I was at his first game against what was supposed to be a potential NCAA tournament bound William & Mary who had a good post player, I'm sure many remember that gam for him. First college game stat line in a win:
17 Pts 7 Rebs 1 Block 1 Steal 6-7 Shooting and 3-3 from 3pt. Seems a long way off from that now.....
