Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

Seeing Finkelstein go on the record by hyping Jackie a bit is a very encouraging sign.

Jackie’s commitment to DU also keeps him off SBU's roster. Beating them out for a well regarded recruit right now is a fine accomplishment for the coaching staff. Well done!

I am anxious to see how Primo & Jackie fit together. They look like they will provide a real upgrade in backcourt athleticism & scoring.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

Good get.   Now we can close the book on PGs for a while, hopefully.
Spears and this kid here should be solid, or at least we hope.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

I like this pickup by Dambrot & staff. Love his statistics & strength. When does the roster begin to shrink? I guess time will tell.

I dont think anyone here has any idea.   We're 3 over, I think, could be 4, could be 2.   Something has to happen eventually.   Cant just keep adding to an over full roster, can you?

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

By my count we are at scholarship limit with Kelly leaving. This supposes that the same two kids not named TDM are still paying their own way and were not given an athletic scholarship. . Also under NCAA rules TDM as a grad transfer does not count against the team scholarship limit.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

What is the limit now?   13 + grad players that stayed their extra year(TDM)?

I have us at 16 total.   15 not counting TDM, and 13 if there are actually 2 not on a full ride.

So I guess we are good.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

Stats look too good to be true. Hopefully between the 2 freshmen we have our starting PG. If not, then we have TDM to fall back on.  I doubt we bring in a transfer PG now but never say never.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

Still hoping for a quality big at center. If we don't land one, we aren't in horrible shape. Still believe there might be more to come.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

You are correct El Presidente,we need a  talented 6-9,6-10 who loves to be physical and rebounds.Tough to
find a quality big man.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

I really like this signing as well, especially when you factor in the competition he played against with those stats!!!  I too think we are now set at PG, but I am with Stew and El P that we could still use a solid big.  Iron Duke I know you like this kid's physicality and strength!! This roster is not set with any finality yet, but as the GMan and Professor say.........time will tell!!!!

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

I bet you he has got a huge chip on his shoulders,as big as Kansas which just wasnt sure  because of his
height.Kansas was real serious about him but its their indecision that  is a huge get for Duquesne. If Johnson
was 6-2 or 6-3 the recruiting services would have given him 4 stars perhaps 5.There is no weaknesses
to his game just the idea he is too short and he will work hard just to prove everyone wrong.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

Great article on Jackie’s game, I am excited about this kid:

https://phenomhoopreport.com/offers-starting-to-pour-in-for-2021-jackie-johnson-hargrave/

Gotta like this quote from his head coach who sees a lot of big time talent up close:

“He has had the best offensive season I’ve seen in my nine years at Hargrave,” Messinger told Phenom Hoops.  “He is incredibly fast with the ball and is as efficient as you can possibly be shooting the ball.  He has range that literally goes back almost to half court.  He has next-level court vision as well and when teams key on him, he is able to make creative passes in traffic to open teammates. He has been invaluable to our 20-0 start, as we know night in and night out, he is going to give us close to 30 points no matter who we are playing against. Super consistent nightly.”

Here comes your 3 point shooting, this kid is lights out. Between him, Baker, and TDM/other guys we can all of a sudden be a good shooting team next year. Agree with others I think we are a strong interior player with size away from me really being excited for this team next year.

My favorite recruiting quote - applies to all sports, "If you're small you have to prove to them you can play.  If you're big, you have to prove you can't."

Speed can make up for a lack of size.
