Imagine a night game here against YSU or Akron?

Imagine a night game here… They’ve since added seats to bring Highmark over 5,000

It would be nice, but I cant imagine 5000 people at a Duke football game.

Re: Imagine a night game here against YSU or Akron?

Coffee and Townsendkid thanks for your thoughts and posts on this and I hate to admit that at first I think Townsendkid is right. I do know that the County game against RMU was actually drawing a little better at 2500 than the basketball game and I do think where you play both games is a factor.  We're just starting to get some exposure for football recently and I know that local writers are getting more interested too. Unfortunately I don't think that the local media realize we are a D1 program at FCS and the equivalent of the old 1 aa.  Eventually and I don't think it would take too long and we would draw 5000 or more.  Need to knock off YSU next!!!  Btw win the NEC and NCAA playoffs helps too! Thanks again for posting guys

If you have a big game at a big league stadium, we may just draw 5,000.

Re: Imagine a night game here against YSU or Akron?

So I've been thinking long and hard about our program and after much internal debate, I think you keep playing at Rooney until you have the funds to make the stadium upgradable.  Perhaps you have one game at Highmark, but I don't think having an off campus stadium for an FCS program is a legit idea.  These would be my Goals if I were Harper.

1.  Focus on adding two FBS schools every season to fund the program if possible.  These games are win-wins for Duquesne as they improve our recruiting ability and allow our team to get that big game atmosphere.  I also know that from my perspective, I get more excited to watch them.  450 grand to play is a HUGE win for the athletic dept funds and could be our niche as a program since we will never draw and make money.
2.  Upgrade Rooney in a legit way.  This is where things get really tricky as I am obviously not an architect, but something creative needs to be done.  The Bluff view is something that can be almost as beautiful as Highmark's skyline, and we need to utilize that.  I think Rhode Island's stadium should be our goal, but with the stands mostly being on the end zone sides as we don't have the space on the sidelines unfortunately.

We don’t have room in the end zones either.   It’s a practice field.

Nobody wants to attend an event at the old parking lot.
