Duquesne wins A10 championship today

In women's cross country. Congratulations!

Do we compete for the NCAA championship now?

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

Is this the first championship since 1977?

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

Yes, other than the football championships on other leagues.  And it's the very first trophy that will say Atlantic 10 champion on it.  The 1977 trophy has Eastern Collegiate Basketball League on it.

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

No men's soccer won a regular season A10 championship.  Didn't win tournament and didn't get NCAA bid.

Also in 2005 men's cross country won the A10 title.

I can hardly contain my excitement.

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

There is no conference tie-in to NCAA Nationals for XC duqkurt.  So, unfortunately no, we don't get to compete for an NCAA title just for winning A10s.

This is our second postseason tourney win ever along with the 05 men's XC team. (The regular season and postseason are both one meet in XC.)

The men's soccer team was the outright A10 regular season champs in 04, and was co-champs in both 03 and 05.

The women's LAX team was the regular season co-champs in 04 and 05 also.

So we do have some regular season co-champs to go with the one other outright championship duqkurt listed.  None of the soccer teams nor LAX teams won the A-10 tourney however.

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

A lot of nastiness in this thread. I hope none of the girls read it.

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

I'm hope I'm not being viewed as being sarcastic for congratulating them.  I meant it.

I'm bummed that they don't get to automatically compete for NCAA team title.  Thanks for the info.

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

I'm not being nasty. I'm happy for the women's cross-country team but I've had my fill of being in the first year of a five year rebuilding program for men's basketball.

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

That is understandable.  Especially since the season is a week away and we have 8 scholarship players.  When you voice opinions of frustration, you get jumped on for being negative.

I have stopped posting anything slightly negative.  Because all it gets you is people jumping down your throat.

The basketball program is what it is.

Re: Duquesne wins A10 championship today

I strongly doubt that it was you that was being called out duqkurt.

I completely understand the frustration of the bball team, and I get that people are upset over another rebuilding period and perhaps even moreso doubting whether it will work given past history here at DU.  It's certainly valid IMHO for debate on a basketball forum.

However, I'd also appreciate if it were confined to basketball threads and not a thread on the women's XC team winning their first A-10 title, and so would at least one of the individuals associated with the team that does read the board.  That's all.
