5 years since the last City Game

It's sad that it has been a whole five years without this great basketball tradition. Do you think this is a Capel/Lyke issue and once they're gone the series will come back? Or is the rivalry just a memory of the old era of college basketball? The women's version was so great last week... fantastic basketball, drama, instensity, atmosphere. It made me realize again how much I miss it!

It really is sad. Look how much fun and success they are having with the Big 5 Classic in Philly. Come on Dukes, Pitt, RMU, WVU, PSU, SFU, Bueller?, somebody make a move to end this nonsense.

I would guess that it is 99.99% Capel -   The fact that the Women Continue to play indicates that Lyke seems to see the benefit (s) to both teams playing every year .  As football continues to make it more difficult (with the number of non-conference games that can be played)  Pitt continues to lament the fact that Penn State won't play them in one of the three (maybe two in the near future) non-conference games they can schedule -- but WON'T do that for ONE of the 9-10 non conference games a basketball team can schedule.

Lyke may be a candidate for the Ohio State job -  wonder if a new AD would consider discontinuing the Women;s game --  I would hope not - might help that their present coach Verdi came from U Mass - and could be sympathetic to an A-10 school.

AND I think we should play Bobby Mo -  EVERY YEAR -  Men's BB -  Women's BB (know there was a problem  several years ago when Judith Sole transferred from RM to DU -  and FB -   Don't hand me any crap about our "strength of schedule"  They could replace one of the teams and the overall effect is probably minimal -- if we played 3 or 4 more teams like them and took out 3 or 4 of the Princetons, Marshalls etc -  THAT would affect the SOS.

Am willing to bet the $$$ from the gate would be more than most of our A-10 game receipts - the payout to them would be somewhat less than we're presently paying out to others -- and while they have held their own in the rivalry - if we can't beat them THAT IS ON US!!!

I believe there was interest from Dambrot to play RMU regularly... I'm not sure what happened there. I remember hearing at the time he would not play RMU until Josh Williams graduated since he played for KD at Akron. His final year of eligibility was 2019-20

Re: 5 years since the last City Game

Let me tell you this. It is not in the best interest, of Pitt, or RMU, or WVU, or DU. to what ever the outcome avoid playing each other. Forget that Pitt is ducking DU. That's just plain stupid of them. DU and RMU? Just as dumb. High end completion in your own back yard? Tell me, who is so afraid of whom to do this to PGH fans? We lose, the Pgh fans only.

It's such a slap in the face to all the local fans. Killing these rivalries has led to no fabulous success for anyone and playing them has cost no one a tourney bid ever.
