Offline Fordham could be a pesky team to beat if: Offline No respect from Fordham coach Tom Pecora on the A-10 coaches conference call. Timmerman, the writer, has taken cheap shots at DU in the past. Something to tell the boys in the locker room today. Offline Didn't we go after Severe? Offline I believe we did, based on recruiting reports, and I believe we were a finalist with Fordham, Pitt, and GWU. But I have no first-hand knoweldge. Offline Great Ghosts Alive! The Dukes favored by 4 points over Fordham! Offline Heard it opened at one hope the betters are right. Offline Colter's already taken 4 shots (the team has 9). Of course, he's a 25% shooter so he's only hit one. Offline Severe might score 50 tonight. Offline Colter has two rebounds, twice has gone coast to coast without giving up the ball. He did feed Soko for a nice dunk, but otherwise has continued to insist on himself once again. Mason still without a shot in this game. Offline Duque, you've got to ease off Colter a wee bit. The one time Colter went coast to coast he drew a nice foul. He can shoot more than Micah because he is better at creating his own shot. I know Colter is very flawed, but we can't nitpick on every mistake he makes. Offline It's not mistakes, Simms, it's his reluctance to share the rock. I said before the season started that if he continued to see himself as DU's first, best or only option that we would have a lot of trouble winning this year. We're up right now because Soko and McKoy are crushing Fordham inside. Offline How could anyone not love McCoy? That guy does everything. Offline He reminds me of Charles Oakley, who might be one of my all-time favorite NBA players. Offline Halftime, Soko (20) and Severe (19) with one of the best shootouts we've seen in a while. Offline Soko having one of the best offensive games by a Duke in a couple years. Offline Severe has gone more than 10 minutes without a point. Offline Our guards are 5-18 shooting and we still have a double digit lead. That's because our forwards are 14-19. We're also winning all of the key battles, fewer TOs, more assists, more FTs, better shooting %. Offline Jesus this game is sloppy... Offline WOW... Why can we NOT defend three point shots? Offline Fordham is 15-37 from 3. Offline Some props for Colter -- hitting FTs, hit a clutch basket. Offline Stupid, stupid foul by Soko. Offline Even dumber foul by Jeremiah Jones. Offline Jeremiah better make these free throws as redemption... Offline Thank God...
Fordham game thread
- Micah Mason is cold, or if Derrick Colter keeps the ball out of his hands
- DU doesn't do a good job of defending the trio of Jon Severe, Branden Frazier and Mandell Thomas
- Ovie Soko and Dominique McKoy don't take advantage of Fordham's thin frontcourt
- The Rams get to the FT line often
Severe, Frazier and Thomas are averaging a combine 50 ppg. They like to chuck it from 3 (half of Severe's shots come from beyond the arc), but their shooting percentages are not great and they are all prone to cold nights. The Fordham guards rebound well to help out a frontcourt that consists of Ryan Rhoomes and, well, little else. Travion Leonard's 6-8, 275 lb. body might look big during warmups, but the sophomore is producing only 5.5 ppg and 4.7 rpg. Rhoomes might be up for the challenge of Soko, but he can't handle Ovie and McKoy together. Watkins may be due for a breakout game, and a guy like LG Gill should get both time and scoring opportunities tonight.
Duquesne's advantages are the athleticism of Soko and McKoy, and of course, Micah "Can't Miss" Mason. That, and the unselfish play and good defense that has highlighted the past three games. I would guess that if tomorrow's box score shows Soko with 20 and 10, McKoy with 8-10 rebounds, Mason with a dozen or more points, and White with a couple steams and 15 points, that we're looking at a 74-66 DU win -- especially if you see a Colter-like shooting line for Severe. We also need to keep from fouling the Rams; they are 10 percentage points better than us from the FT line.
Hopefully the only thing Severe that folks in Pittsburgh remember tonight is the temperature.

Mason, one of the best shooters in the nation, has yet to take a shot.
It's Duquesne 12, Severe 8. •Thread Starter
