Offline Late in a close game, the other team makes plays & we make mistakes. It's the Scott Edgar years all over again. Offline Let's put the blame right where in belongs...... On Coach Ferret's shoulders! It's inexcusable, you're down by one (against the 19th ranked team in the country), with 30 seconds to go and you DON'T play for the last shot !!!! Offline You should never play for the last shot when you're trailing. Offline Colter, jeremiah & Soko all missed critical FTs in crunch time. I don't recall ever seeing a PG called for 10 seconds when he was not being pressed. Offline You should never play for the last shot when you're trailing. Basketball 101, Sir! Offline Colter, jeremiah & Soko all missed critical FTs in crunch time. I don't recall ever seeing a PG called for 10 seconds when he was not being pressed. Offline The Dukes failed because they didn't score. What makes you think they would have scored if they held the ball. Not holding the ball is only a failure if you score early, and then give up the winning bucket. You must have failed at basketbal 101. Would you really trust this team to run a play under 5 seconds, and actually get a good shot? If you do, you haven't been following the team. Offline The Dukes failed because they didn't score. Against a defense like St Louis, you take your chances when they come. McKoy had a great opportunity and missed but still gave the Dukes still a chance to tie with time on the clock. In a tie game, you hold the ball. If you don't screw it up, you either win, or go overtime. When you're trailing, you better get the lead when the best opportunity presents itself. It's better to be on defense with the lead, than to have the ball, but be trailing. Offline There are many reasons why we lost. Colter with two unforced turnovers to evaporate a lead, the entire team reverting back to its bad FT shooting days, Soko with too many soft layup attempts, you could go on and on. I agree with duq81 about holding for the last shot. I also agree with the posters who put some of the blame on Ferry's shoulders. My biggest complaint with a minute left was Jerry Jones in for Micah Mason, when the game was close enough for St. Louis to foul someone. You've got your best FT shooter and best 3 point shooter off the floor in crunch time. Offline Colter, jeremiah & Soko all missed critical FTs in crunch time. I don't recall ever seeing a PG called for 10 seconds when he was not being pressed. This is as much on the coaches as it is on Colter. His slow dribble up court drives me crazy. Typical half court offense is Colter taking 8 or 9 seconds bringing it over the 10 second line, Colter dribbles for another 10 seconds going nowhere and then finaly giving it up usually to Jeremiah deep in the corner with nowhere to go. Back to Colter who dribbles some more but now in a panic mode with the clock winding down. I honestly would like to see the offence run more through Mason. He makes good decisions and finds ways of getting the ball to our bigs in good position to score. Offline Good to see Mason getting a little more open last night. Thought the defense was good but that's probably not possible when they shoot 50%. Robinson looked pretty happy in the stands but he had a good looking lady that probably had a lot to do with that. St. Bonnie looked pretty good last night against LaSalle. Offline Wow! You guys sound worse than me...I was afraid of being too negative but you guys got me beat on this one. Other than Colter not being able to tell time to get across the 10 second line, I didn't think he played that poorly. (And yes, there is NO excuse for that). I agree that if anything, I would put this one on the coaches. I truly believed that we would get blown out. There is no doubt with their 5 seniors they are much more experienced and have better players than we do. I do not like to lose and do NOT consider this a moral victory. Offline Official Attendance 2,274. You be the judge. Offline Official Attendance 2,274. You be the judge. Offline I entered through the Forbes entrance at just after tip off and there were no programs on table. I figured must be a big turnout and was surprised at all the empty seats. Maybe 750 actually in the building? Offline Official Attendance 2,274. You be the judge. How many student "fans" showed up? Was The Crew there in force since we were playing a No. 19 team, or were they again no-shows because the game wasn't televised? Offline Official Attendance 2,274. You be the judge. On our way into the Palumbo, we passed about 15 student fans headed to the Console to see the Penguins. Sorry, students. That's pathetic. Offline When I was a student - 70's we went because they won. This is human nature. I used to get quite upset over no students now. They don't go because the team loses. I don't fault the kids any more. What is pathetic is our constantly losing. I have two season tickets. I have a hard time getting someone to go with me - including my wife! Yah, I know, it is probably me. What's really pathetic, is the student show up ONLY when the game is televised on some national network. Why bother? I just feel sorry for the hard working players who get no support. Offline Official Attendance 2,274. You be the judge. There were a lot more people that weren't there for tipoff CLK. While not 2,274, everytime the Pens play at home literally about half of the folks come after tipoff due to either not realizing there is a Penguins game and parking issues with it or not caring enough to show up early. Rogabee thanks. No doubt more arrived after tip off because looking at the photo the section behind the bench looked like less than 100 fans and thats counting the security guards in yellow. I am not sure, however, what you mean by a "lot more people". Rick above estimate 750 in attendance. Watching the video the it did not look to me like Palumbo was a quarter full, so I would think Rick would be close on his estimate but granted I was no there. But even being generous and saying there was 1,000 people in attendance that is pretty pathetic considering DU was playing the #19 team. Like you said nowhere near 2,274. I even doubt that 2,247 represents paid attendance accounting for no shows. For all of the Colter defenders, it should not be lost on you that at one point Ferry got desparate and tried Tra'vaughn White at the point.
Of course, that failed too.
This was a frustrating loss. This was a game that a year and a half into the Ferry system we should have won. The best player on St. Louis fouled out and despite the 10 or 11 assists Jett did not have a good game (lots of blown layups).
I would have the team on the court practicing right now (6 a.m. ET Thursday) if I were Ferry. Sorry, that's the old school "work ethic" in me. •Thread Starter

BTW the last three by SLU was wide wide open. Nice play and call by the SLU coach. Poor defense by the Dukes.
Still a great effort by the Dukes. A little better execution an FT shooting, and a little better coaching and game management and we could have won.

Re: Game thread
However, they are at least 20 points better than us on paper. I think the effort was there and our kids played well against a much better team. The key will be Saturday night in how they play a team that if they play like they did last night, they could win. It definitely is up to the coaches right now to prepare them for the Bonnies on Saturday Night.

Not sure which, but the pic at tipoff doesn't adequately represent the number there for 32 of the 40 minutes either.
Nothing close to 2,274 though still actually in attendance I don't think.
