Re: Bonnies

I've seen them on TV a couple of times. They are a very solid A-10 team, capable of beating anyone, and a recent 15-pound pounding of LaSalle is proof of that. The Bonnies start three guards, 6-4 Sr. Matthew Wright (15.1 ppg), 6-3 Sr. Charlon Koof (12.3 ppg, 92 assists), and 6-4 Jr. Andell Cumberpatch (10.6 ppgand 4.9 rpg). Two beefy big men, 7-0 Jr. Youssou Ndoye and 6-8 RS Fr. Marquille Simmons round out the starting lineup. The first two players off the bench, 6-7 Soph. Dion Wright and 6-3 Jr. G Jordan Gathers, both score more than 9 ppg.

Ndoye averages 9/6/2 (points, rebounds, blocks), and Simmons brings another 8 ppg. As a team the Bonnies consistently outshoot opponents from the floor. They don't have any standout 3-point shooters, but with the size they can put on the floor, they don't need any. Part of their defensive "charm" is the fact that they block four shots per game and have 135 steals through 19 games.

I'd expect the Bonnies to smother our guards defensively and try to establish Ndoye inside quickly (where have you gone, Jordan Robinson? Duquesne nation wishes you were here). Ndoye will either take Soko and McKoy out of the game quickly with fouls (and Soko is prone to bad ones) or we can try to wear him out by continuing to spot both of our big men high with the hopes that they can draw him out and beat him to the rim.

We will have to shoot exceptionally well to win. We won't have many second chances, and with our smurfy backcourt we really only get two guys crashing at any given time.

The Bonnies won't let us run. They're cover our guards and keep us off the glass. This will be a tough game and it could be a double digit loss.

I would think Darius Lewis and Isaiah Watkins might see some extended PT today. Of course, you're more likely to see our walk-ons before you see our scholarship bigs.

I would put our best chance of winning on the formula that worked on Wednesday ... Mason on the outside and Soko and McKoy scratching around inside, although the St. Louis big men were more agile and liked to spend time outside the paint (except for that big sophomore who torched us).

Rooting for a Dukes win and strong turnout from the students!

Re: Bonnies

Good analysis El Duque.  I watched their games with UMass and LaSalle and was really impressed with how much Ndoye has developed. As a freshman he was as raw as raw can be.  It would be great if our coaching staff can do a similar job with Lewis.

Lewis becoming a factor would have an amazing impact on the team, as it would allow us to have a huge front line.

Re: Bonnies

I'm not going to lie, I hope Watkins turns out to be amazing, but he looks pretty lost out there.

Re: Bonnies

70 and 79 bad coming in from the south. Decided after a !80 and some other skidding to head home and watch on line.

Re: Bonnies

We're on TV tonight Rick.

Weather Channel said it would stop snowing where I am at 5 p.m. and it did. Got my shoveling and salting done and now am looking forward to seeing the Dukes on TV. May not be able to conduct a good game thread because my TV and PC (yes, I do still have one of those) face in opposite directions.

It's on PCNC, Rick.

I had just finished cleaning and salting the driveway once again and was thinking perhaps I should have gone to the game as conditions semed to be improving.  Then a sudden squall came through dropping who knows how much snow along with winds that covered the driveway deeper than before.  It looks like we both made a wide choice.

Re: Bonnies

Fios PCNC (#9) menu does not list the Duquesne v St Boneventure game at all.

Re: Bonnies

It's listed on Comcast.  I found out about it in today's game notes on the school site.

Re: Bonnies

What a dumb foul by Gill.

Re: Bonnies

I'm so sick of Soko not trying to make basket when fouled. As he ever made a 3 point play the old fashioned way??

Re: Bonnies

Leaving their 3 point shooters wide open doesn't seem to be working out too well.

Re: Bonnies

Anyone actually think that shot was going to fall? Seems like many years since we won on a buzzer beater shot. Last I can recall was a Tricco 3 from the corner against someone.

Re: Bonnies

Melquan Bolding's last second shot, also against St. Bonaventure, either after he came back from a busted hand or the game in which he busted the hand.

Re: Bonnies

Big win for the Dukes.  Happy for Colter that he was able to come back and redeem himself.  Hopefully El Duque can root the Dukes to a win on Wednesday.
