Offline I'm sure you younger guys enjoyed that ending, but I think I need a baby Bayer after that one. I am glad for Colter that he hit that shot. You don't get many chances in sports to go from goat to hero, but he did it. Nice win for the fans who gutted out the weather tonight. Big game for Soko, who had a Saunders-esque performance against a monster big man. McKoy missed a double-double by one rebound. How about Micah Mason? 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists. Offline Hope the weather is better in Newark on Wednesday. Offline It's a 60 mile ride for me one way, so I'm hoping for good weather too. Don't care how cold it gets, as long as it's dry. Offline Derrick Colter is the best thing since sliced bread! Offline Let's not go that far. Great shot and great win, and as I always say, that's the bottom line. But missed FTs, committed some silly fouls, made some bad shot selection, etc., which kept us from a more comfortable win. Offline Derrick Colter is the best thing since sliced bread! Face it, El Duque will not be satisfied until Abele starts bringing the ball up court. Seriously, very happy for Colter. Talk about going from the outhouse to the penthouse in 4 seconds. It was a guts shot at just the right time. Off subject, nice marketing move by putting the the soroity (sp) honeys on the big screen. Girls can't resist the big screen shot, and where the girls are, the boys are sure to follow. Also on marketing, is the bookstore (Barnes & Noble, I think) required to sell Duquesne stuff in the surrounding 50 mile radius by contract? If not, they should! Just something to chew on besides Colter being from the Dark Side! Just kidding ED, just kidding! Offline Just like to point out something. How does this win feel? Better than the ones over those dogs in the winning streak? Do you think this victory over a team with an RPI under 100 is more meaningful than the 300-plus slugs we beat? It sure is. This type of win is more meaningful to the coaches and players than any two or three in that winning streak combined because it came against a decent team. Offline Colter missing those ft's might have been the best thing for us. The chances of the Bonnies hitting a shot down 1 at the buzzer were probably pretty good with the way things have been going lately. Offline Derrick Colter is the best thing since sliced bread! Don't know if "Prince" is referring to the Dukettes (the Dance Troupe) who got their share of "air time" During one of those "dark periods" when DU was struggling hoops wise they actually got mentioned in one of those basketball publications which posted something in their pre season preview like "While the team might be struggling the dance troupe is worth a visit" Offline Prince, as you know, I am more than happy to eat crow. All I care about is winning. DC still needs to cut down on the bad turnovers (his numbers aren't high, but he seems to make hideous ones at crucial moments), he needs to improve on his ability to go to the rim, and of course it wouldn't hurt if he could hit some FTs, but the truth is that came up big in a clutch moment. With two Bonnies draped all over him. And I am very happy for him. He made the SC highlights but had to share #4 with a couple other buzzer beaters last night. Offline John Griffin called the play as it was happening (Colter inbounds it, he'll get it back), and I have to tell you, if you didn't know he was a league analyst calling that ending you'd have thought he was a "homer." Really enjoyed that call. Offline Prince, as you know, I am more than happy to eat crow. All I care about is winning. I'm not saying don't have two or three on your nonconference schedule. every team does. What I'm saying is that St. B is the type of win that has meaning. If you think beating NJIT, which at one point had the longest losing streak in NCAA basketball, is going to impress anyone other than Dukes fans desperate for a win, you are mistaken. These tomato cans were put on the schedule simply to prop up our record. Offline Well, a Miracle was called for and received. THANK YOU!!! Offline Micah looked like Jimmy V after the shot. He was sprinting out to McCoy who sidestepped him and left Micah with noboby to hug. Watching Colter after missing the fts was painful. He took it hard. Offline Last edited by CLK (1/26/2014 1:23 pm) Thanks for posting the game interviews CLk. It was nice to win. Offline Thanks for posting the game interviews CLk. It was nice to win. There are quite a few boards in meltdown mode. They are not happy over at Hoya Saxa (Georgetown), and on Redmen Talk (St John's), Steve Lavin is public enemy #1. I havent been on the Carolina board recently, but I can't imagine that they're very happy about being 1-4 in the ACC. Offline Thanks for the headsup. Interesting to hear the coaches are braving the weather to do some recruiting in Cleveland. Hope they have better luck then I did last night trying to make the game. Any chance of you being Jarrett's halftime quest? Offline Rick, I'd rather turn the tables ... let me interview Jarrett and Ray. Bet I could get some great stories out of them. Offline Thank you CLK for posting the videos. I turned the game off when DK missed his free throws. No way we win that game. That and too many years of disappointments. Had to read about it in the LA Times this morning. Offline Mike I have to confess I felt the same way. It was great, however, to get revenge on the Bonnies for the Davenport shot a couple of years ago, and for Colter being the one to hit that shot to make up for missing his free thows. Offline What was very satisfying was sending the Bonnie fans on that long trip to Olean with a big fat L. They brought that stupid drum of course. One of our fans had to get a security guard to make them ease up on the profanities. Great night all around.
WOW!
Hoping to see the team in Newark Wednesday.

Re: WOW!
This could turn out to be a huge win for the Dukes. If Soko, McKoy, Mason and Colter play as well Wednesday as they did tonight, we should have a good chance to beat NJIT.

Glad to see more plays designed for McKoy. Why not? The guy has an amazing FG%. •Thread Starter

It's wins such as these that move a program forward, not the Pan Americas of the basketball world.

Ritter, you're right about the value of beating a higher-rated opponent, but you really need to look at the non-con schedules of most A-10 teams, which include all of the teams we played. We're not the only team doing it. And Pitt's a Top 20 team, curse them, and WVU is no slouch. What really needs to happen is Duquesne blowing through that portion of the schedule with 10-11 wins, and crushing defeats of the lesser programs. That might be more realistic with Watkins and Mason being healthy all season and Robinson certified by the NC@@$holes some time before he's 65. •Thread Starter

I'm sure somewhere on a Bonnie board there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth over all of their big men being in foul trouble -- they're never in foul trouble at home -- but I thought the officiating was pretty fair. They're big men do a lot of extracurricular bumping and shoving, and their best player is probably a drama major because he got about three favorable calls when no one even touched him. Even that next to last set of FTs they got, which led to White shooting the two Ts, I didn't see that guy get touched.
Glad that crew was on the court, all in all. •Thread Starter

There are dozens of 200-250 RPI teams I would rather watch than the garbage from that winning streak. And I bet the player would tell us that too.

Re: WOW!
The Dayton flyer pride message boards were in serious meltdown last night. Interesting to see a successful program (maybe not in NCAA appearances) but one that has great facilities and fan support going ballistic over their current situation. I'm not revealing in their misery but they are not a happy bunch.

Re: WOW!
Coach Ferry in his post game interview, and again on the radio today, talked about how this team is getting better. He acknowledged that defensively this team needs to improve. Looking at the Bonnie highlight video above you can see how late we were in covering the three point shot. If the Dukes could somehow do a better job of contesting the three point shot, and gaining some confidence, this could be a dangerous team. Let's hope this is the beginning. It is not going to be easy with 5 of the next seven on the road. GW is going to be a challenge. However, I doubt that any of the games coming up are any harder, or harsher environment than VCU was.
