Interesting that the win on Saturday saw all 9 guys (only 9 non injured scholarship players now) played 10 mins or more. This seems to be the recipe for success. There is no workhorse, no go-to scorer; it’s just 9 guys all buying into the system and giving maximum effort. Dru is getting a good handle on when to push different buttons. It’s tough not having that guy who you can just give the ball to and let him at least try to take over a game. Trey can be that guy for a bit (he’s the only player besides Corbett who seems to know how to draw a foul) and Max as well but neither or anybody else can be THE guy and most years that can be a problem - especially at tournament time. But I like what we are starting to see. Anybody can score each possession and all players giving maximum effort on the defensive end. Dayton will be a challenge but at least this team showed they could score when the 3pointers weren’t falling. It’s time for guys like Necas, Matus, and Corbett to step up. Necas has already shown great improvement but he has higher heights in him. Corbett needs to focus on rebounding, distributing, and defense. He has to stop trying make a play that isn’t there. He needs to be our Dennis Rodman. Matus needs to trust his mid range jumper more and try to score closer to the rim. He has the size . His 3 point shot will come back once he gets comfortable everywhere on the floor. I like seeing Dru grow into the role of HC too. He really has to coach this group - there’s no easy answers on offense. Interesting that the win on Saturday saw all 9 guys (only 9 non injured scholarship players now) played 10 mins or more. He really has to coach this group - there’s no easy answers on offense. Each game is different. Who becomes the high scorer is sometimes depends on which Duke is matched up with a weak defender. Coach Dru and the crew are getting it. We right now are in the same position as last year. But, DJ and his crew needs to each game get ahead, not behind, and keep the pressure up with subbing in to break down each opponent with constant pressure, then bring in the closing crew. That's how we won the whole thing last year. Stay loose, take the open shots, and play lock down defense. What's behind you this season is not important. It's who you are today. I like our chances. This, hopefully, will be a good first year for the coach, and next year, with another shot at the portal, will be better. Get DiMichele back, Williams back maybe, and see what Hall brings to the table.
