Tom Gola

LaSalle great Tom Gola passed away on January 26 at age 81. In 1952 he led the Explorers to the NIT title and in 1954 to the NCAA title. And in 1956 he led the Philadelphia Warriors to the NBA title. What a career.

Re: Tom Gola

Old-time sportswriters still talk about the wars between Gola's explorers and Sihugo Green & the Dukes.

Re: Tom Gola

1972, thereabouts, I was in the Old Main gym.  Just me and this old guy shooting at the other end.   He offered me on, one-on-one, make it keep it.  Ha, thinks I, this old coot...  Well, I never saw the ball again.  Someone told me it was Tom Gola, there coaching LaSalle.  Of course, I didn't have my lucky shoes on, and my arm was sore, and maybe I took it easy on him (Nope)...other than that, I would'a creamed him.  RIP, a great one.
