I’m far away, but why are the big guys and the rest of the quality kids going away? Some to lower level schools. Is it all about the money? Is Duquesne not recruiting locally? I don’t think WPIAL boy’s basketball is all that good at producing D1 talent these days. It’s much more the exception rather than the rule. This could be a mistaken perception on my part but it’s what I’ve observed. Just nothing around here right now. Dukes arent missing out on anything. I think the Dukes would have done well to land local talents Ama Tening Sow and\or Tyler Robbins from the 2025 class. Dukes offered both. They are going to lower-level programs. Yes, but to the point of the original poster, why did those 2 players go to those schools instead of DU? In both cases, DU wasn't even their best offer. Dukes offered both. They are going to lower-level programs. When I was a kid all I wanted to do was get out of Western PA. I grew out of that. But they might not have. When I was a kid all I wanted to do was get out of Western PA. I grew out of that. But they might not have. Was it something I said? AMA Sow is from Senegal and the guy that helped to bring him to the U.S. is an assistant at Tennessee -Martin, so possibly a pre-arranged deal. Last edited by phil95 (3/01/2025 12:56 pm) Rowan Carmichael, my mistake. I guess the Bob Dylan movie is etched in my brain! Is it assumed that Dom Aekins will be a Duke next season? It looks like he has had a very good prep season. Dom is 5’9”. Dom is 5’9”. Oh no same as Rozier? WPIAL ain't much of a hotbed for football anymore either. Rowan Carmichael as a walk-on? Edinboro and Coker are recruiting him. Maybe get lucky and find another Jake type local guy. I really enjoyed watching several of his game & highlights videos yesterday. He is surprisingly athletic, knows the game, & is a dynamic long range shooter. You can tell he has been coached well & is a serious competitor. He looks to be a true PG with a knack for putting the ball in the bucket. Rowan Carmichael as a walk-on? Edinboro and Coker are recruiting him. Maybe get lucky and find another Jake type local guy. Aekins is very athletic. Dunks the ball with ease, is very quick, and has a very nice floater Last edited by HookShot (3/03/2025 4:53 pm) Can Aekins shoot the three? In today’s game guards that can’t shoot a reasonable percentage from the arc are going to have no luck penetrating because opponents will just lay off him and he won’t be able to drive. You see how they play Corbet right now because they invite him to shoot from distance. Seeing some reports that Arness Lawson was arrested on Friday and missed his team’s playoff game (that they lost). Not good for Lawson, or the Dukes. Hopefully things play out and he isnt in too hot of water. Was starting to get excited about him next year. Saw that also. Don't want to see the kid in too much hot water, first and foremost for his sake and second for our program. Looks like a winner and could really use him next year. Let's get one tonight and LET'S GO DUKES!! Seeing some reports that Arness Lawson was arrested on Friday and missed his team’s playoff game (that they lost). Re: Local guys
I don’t know about Robbins other than Duquesne did offer, but perhaps he wanted to leave town.
There was also Courtney Wallace the son of former Dukes guard and very good scorer of the same name. He is definitely a D-1 player, has the size, strength, and scoring ability; but he has already signed with Yale. I can’t blame a kid for going Ivy League if he has that chance. Yale is a top program that has made some noise in the NCAA Tournament
.
Other than that, I would say Rowan Carmichael at Avonworth is an interesting player. Very skilled, son of a college coach, and a lights-out shooter. He is pretty athletic as well a good leaper. He is probably a touch below 6’0” tall so size could be an issue, but shooting and ability can make up for an inch or two. I don’t know if he has any D-1 offers at this point, but has Micah Mason-like shooting talent. The kid is a better shooter than anyone at Duquesne right now!

I was looking into Dylan Carmichael & think I found him at Avonworth under the first name of Rowan. Is that the same player?levon1975 wrote:

Re: Local guys
Has anyone been able to watch full games featuring Arness Lawson from this season? If so, links to that action would be greatly appreciated. I haven't found any.

Re: Local guys
Unfortunately, cracking the lineup at PG next season seems like an impossibility for a walk-on PG if Kareem, Arness, & Aekins are all on the roster. He seems like a prime candidate for a prep year to prove himself against better competition & mature physically. That worked for Jake.townsonkid wrote:
