Can anyone confirm the amount of eligibility remaining for the following Dukes: To my knowledge (Please correct me if I am wrong), JUCO does not count towards eligibility anymore. So, Hall, the 22 year & 7 month old senior could conceivably be around for 4 season & play his last college game at 26+ years of age? Not quite true regarding Junior College years. The NCAA Division I Board of Directors approved an extra year of eligibility only in 2025-26 for student-athletes who previously competed at a non-NCAA school for one or more years (which includes junior colleges) and would have exhausted their eligibility after the 2024-25 season. That makes more sense. Thanks to Phoenix for the clarification. That makes more sense. Thanks to Phoenix for the clarification. phil95, that’s way above my pay grade. I’m confident that Van Bussel had 3 years remaining. Jimmie Williams has at least 2 years; Hall 2 years, Guinyard 1 year - all 3 could change based on future court/NCAA rulings on junior college play. My somewhat limited expertise came to Phoenix’s conclusion. Pretty sure it is right. When Guinyard's recruitment was first written about, a couple of sources reported that he would have 2 years remaining. Based on his experience, that felt wrong to me. I find his being a Duke for a single season disappointing because I think that being in a program & competing against the same conference foes for multiple campaigns significantly boosts the chances of notable success for mid-major players who come in as upperclassmen. (This is why I am looking for Maximus to be much better this season than last.) This forum is hosted for free by Boardhost. Create your own free forum!

Re: Player Eligibility
With that said, Guinyard, J Williams, & Van Bussel would each have 3 years left and Hall looks to have 4.

Re: Player Eligibility
I don’t believe that this ruling as it stands today impacted anyone on the Dukes roster. (I do believe that Tre Dinkins benefited from this ruling to get another year at GW after playing 1 JC year, 2 at Canisius and 1 at Duquesne.) The entire eligibility situation is a mess with additional COVID years, hardship waivers, JC waivers, court rulings, etc.

Do you have any insight on the current players' remaining eligibility? •

Re: Player Eligibility
I am quite optimistic about Steff van Bussel's potential to stay for multiple years & be a major contributor. If he is healthy, I see him as a better Austin Rotroff. I don't expect him to ever become an all-conference player, reducing the chances of his bailing after this season or next. Also, it seems to me that having to adjust to a 4th or even fifth school would be a drag.
I think he could average 9 & 7 at some point while providing rim protection & capable playmaking from the center position. This is a long shot for this season, but as a junior & senior, he could be one of the better starting centers in the A-10..
