Re: Tracking the Roster

Curious to see what could happen with Guinyard, does he leave because he has more years cause, does he get another year at Duquesne, does he get another year and goes elsewhere for more money?   You see those JC players get extra years for football.   So I imagine there is a route there for him to get another, if he wants it.

Wouldnt Milošević still be a freshman?

Re: Tracking the Roster

According to a post by Triston Freeman on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, Guinyard will be pursuing his professional options as his appeal for an additional year does not look good.  We will have to wait and see what happens.

How I understand it is TG looks like he is moving on. He posted on Instagram several pictures from Senior Day and the A-10 Tournament with the caption “Uno Out ❤️ #dukesup” which I interpret as #1 (Guinyard), Out (preparing to move on). His account is @getabuck.t on Instagram. As for the waiver, I think Guinyard does not have to file it himself. If another player in the NCAA files a similar waiver and it is successful it will be enough to let Guinyard have another year of eligibility by piggy-backing off of the precedent set. With Covid no longer being a factor, I think that possibility is slim. Diego Pavia successfully did it last year but I think this year may be different due to the pandemic.

He was celebrated on Senior Day which is deserved and gave us some great highlights to look back upon fondly. If I could I would thank TG for becoming a Duke and giving us those moments. If he does luckily get a chance at playing another year in the NCAA, I wonder how much money big schools would dangle in front of him.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Portal is a double-edged sword.

I won't share who I think isn't good enough but outside of the incoming freshman, there are only 5 players good enough to be starters/in March rotation. I would also assume we lose 2 of those 5. One is a guarantee from what I've heard. Going to need to shed a couple more scholarship spots if this team wants to finish above 10th place. That's a bottom feeder roster at the moment.

I trust Dru to find a starting PG and C in portal and be competitive again. SLU supposedly gearing up for a 10 mill roster.

Well it’s March Madness or Sadness any ones call
Heck Davidson has 8 players in portal
Let’s get ready for roster turnover every year!
Most players are one and done if your good transfer up if you had bad year transfer down

Re: Tracking the Roster

Best of luck to Stef but they needed that roster spot emptied.

Necas was the guy I heard the guarantee about.

Will be interesting to see where Jimmie lands. He's very replaceable.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Not sure where Necas will go. I can't see any Power 5 team wanting him. Maybe he drops down a level.

As for Van Bussel, no big loss, but the constant roster turnover makes it hard to love this sport anymore.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Milosevic also in the Portal.  That is three today and four total in the Portal.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Wish these guys the best of luck moving forward.  I thought Milosevic showed some promise early in the season when he was getting some minutes off the bench.  He was combative and the size was legit.  Since they apparently burned his redshirt, it may have been wise to get him a few minutes in the A-10 games.  I know his lateral mobility may have been an issue, but he showed a decent touch in the paint and with some work should be able to score.  There were some games where Necas struggled, but Dru went with Alex or Brandon, and gave a different look.  Obviously Alex had to play after he rounded into “basketball shape” as he became the dukes best offensive option in many games down the stretch.  I’d have liked to see Dru sub for Dave with Milo instead of Hugely.  I mean just on energy and effort it may have been an upgrade, but we’ll never know.
I hope Dru has some impactful portal options because losses to graduation alone were huge; and now with the portal losses, we have no returning 4 or 5- men on the roster.  I’m not counting on Jellum, since I never saw him play. For teams like Duquesne, legitimate 4s and 5s  are typically very hard to find.  Depending on an unproven freshman like Ntapsis isn’t going to work.  For all we know he could be on par with Milosevic or Steph!

Yeah, would think he drops down a level but why.   More money from a smaller school?   Doesnt want to be left on a team that will be completely different his senior year?   Doesnt like it here?   He was a starter all year, and would be next year, so PT wouldnt be an issue.
Oh well, he helped us win the A10 and beat BYU, something to be said for that, for years to come.

I'm going to miss him for sure. I miss everyone from that 2024 team. This just seems like an odd move. Maybe some lower tier P5 school sees his potential and is willing to drop a bag on him? That's the only way this makes sense.

Re: Tracking the Roster

There are 2 levels to look at with transfers. One is how a player fit/his character. No doubt that at least Necas as we know, is a team player and really showed up when we went to the NCAAs.

The other level is results. Duquesne hasn’t gone to a tournament the last two years. How many times have we heard good players make good coaches. Thus, we aren’t losing anyone who got us to a tournament. Also, and what is worse, is seeing many teams not called Duquesne who have gone far in the NIT or NCAA and have many kids transferring out. This is for men and women. Unless NIL is changed, every year will be a reset for most teams. This new normal will soon be just plain normal. The focus will be not on who teams are losing, but who can they get. Things could be worse… look at Pitt.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Wow, thats disappointing.   Was planning on him being a starter next year.
Playing a combined 5 minutes in the A10 probably drove him away tho.
I hope Lawson, Hall and DiMichele dont leave too.   Might not have a team in 2026-27.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Dom was a bit of a reach and things just didn’t work out for him.  He had some moments in the pre season, but defense is often a problem for all freshmen. He should be able to find a good landing spot. W

It now becomes apparent why ( at least according to twitter published reports ) that there is such a heavy emphasis placed on the guard position in the portal.
Based on DRU's usage in the past ( 3 guard lineups the vast majority of the time ) at LEAST 2 must be secured in the spring and hope for mssrs. Lawson and Williams to pan out.
