Re: Game Thread - Richmond Spiders

I admit that, in the past, I have felt that the criticism of TV broadcasters for Dukes' home games has been a little overzealous. No more.

These guys are sooooo in love with all things Richmond! They should absolutely be reprimanded.

Somebody should also clue them in to the idea that they have overlooked a fine half of basketball by the host school.

This program is run by amateurs.

Re: Game Thread - Richmond Spiders

Benz is always in love with anybody the Dukes are playing. Guess he's just trying to play the other team up instead of criticizing the many flaws in this Dukes team. Wish he would be more critical towards this lousy coach and system. Just means he's really not a fan just a puppet.

Re: Game Thread - Richmond Spiders

The best option is for him to resign at the end of the season.  The way he has waxed nostalgic about his days at Akron says he is just over coaching.   This feels like the last Nee year.   If they fire him, he will bad mouth the school to no end.

On Benz he is RMU’s biggest f-ing cheerleader and DU hires him.   Enough said about the athletic department leadership at this school.

It never getting better.

Re: Game Thread - Richmond Spiders

He had a pretty good team coming back but they didnt have championship attitude.Glad we got that championship feelin with this team.Went to first game against Rider and my son in law and I looked
at each other not believing the lack of talent present.Dukes are a decent Division 2 team, maybe.

Re: Game Thread - Richmond Spiders

I always root for the Dukes, but sometimes you have to adopt a second team to get you through another down season on the bluff. This year it's the University of Seattle. Have watched the vast majority of their games on ESPN plus and this team is so well coached and has a three guard attack as good as any team in the country. Also, have one of the best players in the country in Darrion Trammell.  Grigsby, Trammell, and Tyson make up the 3 guard attack and the the front line players are tough as nails. This team will be in the sweet sixteen.

With a new young coach and an entire new roster, save a few talented leftovers if you are lucky after this debacle. Think Rotroff will be back and that's a good thing. Plenty of talent in the transfer portal along with incoming frosh. Baby steps, but if you nab the right coach it will pay dividends. Doesn't have to be in the long run either. Just need a coaching staff that can recognize and recruit talent, and actually coach players up. Someone who knows today's players and the X's and O's of today's game. Not rocket science.

Postgame after Richmond:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlhiQO9f-X8

Question - Where's Andy Barba?  Are we going to glue him to the bench the way the way we did Hima? When recruited, he was supposedly a pretty good shooter.  We could have used some of that last night.  This season is lost.  Let's work on developing the players.

I believe Barba is a red-shirt this season due to his earlier injury.

Re: Game Thread - Richmond Spiders

The Morning After Thoughts
Dambrots presser was actually more up front than I thought he would be.  Though he hasn't mentioned that at the beginning of the year he said this team was his best ever, he is now saying they aren't as good as he thought.  He also realizes he has to get a big man.  Those wanting him fired aren't going to see that for another year.  He has one year left and I don't think there will be any success in firing him after this year, especially because they are "HOPING" he gets one of the big guys he offered.  In addition, he has the support of the President and the AD.
His stubbornness of not playing a zone really doesn't matter any more as I will be surprised if they win MORE than 2 games the rest of the year.  Over the next four games their only "hope" is Fordham.  VCU, Dayton, and Davidson will probably blow them out...unless those teams see such an easy team to play that they don't prepare.  But I don't see that happening with their coaches.

Re: Game Thread - Richmond Spiders

Checked the box score after the post game interview. Hima 11 minutes. Yes foul trouble but did it really matter. Unless this roster overhauls or 2 studs come into the program via the portal not holding out hope with Gunn, Barba, Rotroff (health?) & the 2 underwhelming HS recruits. How long will the Administration support this without demanding a change as was the case with Dan Rooney & Chuck Noll. Don’t see a Cincinnati Bengals last to first scenario with this group. Play Hima & Okani.Duquesne clearly  Basement team of the  A 10 . One & done in DC. I’m not buying in for next year without a significant roster change. Last place in 22 to maybe 9th in 23 not good enough. Dambrot has to find a Joe Burrow.

There is a bright side to this mess.  Betting against Duquesne is better than a treasury bond.

2things.
1.  Yes- not sure if one team didn’t cover the spread over the last 4 games in beating The Dukes.
2.   Do all the A10 teams get into the tournament???

The Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Championship returns to Captial One Arena in Washington, March 9-13, with the league title and an NCAA Tournament bid on the line. The championship features all 14 league teams competing over five days in the heart of Washington, D.C.

I got greedy and tried a 3 teamer last night and lost one of them.   Should have just put it all on Richmond.

Dukes have lost the last 6 against the spread; last 5 have all been Under.

If the season ended today (and the schedule to this point is uneven due to COVID postponements), the Dukes are in 13th place in the A-10.  Dukes would play UMass (current #12) in the tourney opener; winner would face #5 (current Saint Louis) or #6 (current St. Bonaventure).

So disparaged haven’t even watched the last few games, but this gets my vote for post of the year so far.
