Nice job Phoenix on the KenPom breakdown—thanks for cutting through the noise.21.2% TO rate (327th) and 67.8% FT are killing us, but they’re 100% fixable. I am hopeful that the TO autopsies + 100 FT reps after practice already in motion, and this work will be visible Saturday.Defensively, 340th in opp FT rate and soft at the rim is on the + the bigs. More zone (like the W&M run) and smarter help is the fix—Dixon/Hugley/van Bussel have the length, just need discipline.Jake gets more minutes to settle us.Love this honest discussion. For the most part our team is composed of grown men, who I believe have the desire to win and be great. It is up to Dru and staff to fix these issues and I believe they will. Go Dukes 🏀

While I agree with everyone that D-2 stats shouldn't count, most stat compilers do count them (KenPom that Phoenix posted is an exception). Also we are far from the only team who has faced one. Of course those stats will be further skewed after the Cleary game, but that's another discussion.
Being an alum from the Danny Nee years, I'm usually pretty pessimistic when it comes to Dukes basketball. I'm actually taking a glass half full outlook this year though. Obviously we need to get a lot better, but I think the talent is there and as the last few posts have shown the offense has been pretty good.
I think the most important thing is figuring out a rotation. With so much depth (and some guys coming back from injuries) I think Dru has seen the non-conference season as a feeling out period. You can certainly argue whether that is wise or not, but the team looked very different in the last several games than the first bunch of last season. I think it will be even moreso this season.
I feel like he's in a little bit of a catch-22 in that aspect though. I think the early substitutions have ruined any flow we have in multiple games already. On the other hand, we have a bunch of players on this team who run hot and cold. It's been pretty clear early on in games if guys have it or not. I'm not saying if a guy doesn't look good in the first 4 minutes he rides the bench the rest of the game. I can see the logic of giving a bench player a shot if the starter looks off early on though.
I was really surprised by several posters wanting less Hugley after the last game, but the +/- stats Phoenix posted seem to justify that sentiment. More than anything I think that shows he is far and away the most valuable player on this team. He's been good in wins and bad in losses. I've been very impressed by his play, and can see why he was a top 100 recruit who has played for three high level programs. I feel like we are lucky to have him on the Bluff for his last go around in college and we need him to have a big role on the team. I'm not asking him to change his fun-loving personality on the court, but as our best (and oldest) player it's even more important that he bring consistent focus and effectiveness when he's on the floor.

Good stuff indeed. Love the hockey analysis. Key moment in the W&M game was in my opinion the technical taken by the Tribes head coach. At that point Dukes had the momentum to put W&M away. What happened next the BS call negating the 3 pointer based upon an alleged leg kick & flop. Duquesne home team. Would this have been called against Duke or North Carolina at home against a mid major? If tomorrow the Dukes are struggling Coach Dru it’s time to go Bobby Knight or Huggins minus the DUI with the refs. Force the refs for makeup calls. The conference games are around the corner. Coach Dru you are no longer a rookie head coach. Time to protect your team especially at home. Remember Dambrots meltdown at PPG against Penn State. Again thanks for the analysis 👍
