Sometimes this happens. One team playing irrationally on a positive note and the other doing nothing right. This is another “new” situation for the coach. I have learned that he and his team are not what I thought they would be after the first couple of OCC games.

As far as the officials, the one gentlemen hurt us twice so far this year but it didn’t matter in this game. The officials did not dictate this outcome, Dayton did. This game had little to do with the overall poor officiating.

FAM I agree with your post. The Refs, Ellis Cannon, A10 conspiracy, coaching & players didn’t matter last night. Dayton was shooting 3 pointers into an ocean instead of the hoop. Let’s go Dukes come Sunday at noon.

TurN DOWN THE SOUND to enjoy a home Duquesne game on ESPN plus. It works wonders. It is so much more enjoyable then listening to the poor announcing. You can form your own opinions, don’t have to hear ridiculous comments, and can share things with your dog regarding good plays without auditory distractions. TURN DOWN THE SOUND!

Go Dukes!

Better rebound from that hot mess last night, and be ready to beat Fordham, it wont be easy playing in that shoebox, and their students will show up, its on tv, even if they are 0-5.   Road wins, get every one you can.

Really pathetic showing last night, and not just the team. Where were the students? Seemed like there were more Dayton fans than Duquesne fans.

I have no confidence this team can beat Fordham at Rose Hill on Sunday after that showing.

So agree. That clown makes me want to puke especially when their losing. He loves when The Dukes get humiliated. How has he not been fired. Duquesne basketball has to look into that.

The absolute worst.   Especially with Noah on the radio now.  Just plain awful.

Dave Mackall article from the Trib.
https://triblive.com/sports/duquesnes-3-game-winning-streak-ends-with-loss-to-dayton/

Provides an update on Jake:
"The Dukes again were missing sophomore guard Jake DiMichele, whose injured left foot was scheduled to be re-examined Wednesday.

The 6-4 DiMichele, a former Our Lady of the Sacred Heart star, has played in just seven games this season in a reserve role and is averaging 10.9 points per game.

He originally tore the plantar tendon in his foot, which led to a stress fracture in his arch, he said. With the possibility of a redshirt on the table for the sophomore shooting guard, he’ll know more after a visit with the doctor."

Wow. First I have heard what the injury was. Sounds painful… I wish Jake the best. I worry that this team may not have the scrappy edge they would if he was on the floor. It’s a tough choice and I’m happy I don’t have to make it.

That's the biggest thing to me. I think Tim Benz does a good job on play-by-play, but I listen to the broadcasts on away games and every other A-10 team has an analyst that actually analyses the game. Cannon provides nothing. It's one thing if they can't find anyone better, but Noah did a good job as the third wheel last year and filling in this year. Not only is he far more entertaining than Cannon, but he knows the game and can provide actual analysis. It might be hard to work out this year since he's on the radio call with Ray, but if he's not teamed with Tim next year something is seriously wrong with the operation.

Ritters closes at 8 PM now. Even if they wanted to be there they couldn’t. I do get your reference though… I wonder how the miserable Ritters user from the forum is doing after our tournament run.

I don’t think references to the Dru’s experience need to come into play.  Certainly with Dru’s vast basketball experience as a player and a coach that he has experienced games where the opponent shoots the lights out and his team underperforms.  Sometimes it seems like people on this board post as any of these experiences are new to Dru.  I’m quite sure that’s not the case.  Let’s assume he was a longer tenured head coach.  Could he have somehow drawn from that experience to flip the outcome of this game?  I think not.

Sure, in 10+ years as a player he saw all kinds of games. The responsibilities and skill set of a coach are so different that it doesn't really matter. Hall of Famers Elgin Baylor and Isiah Thomas saw all kinds of things as players. Role players Phil Jackson and Steve Kerr coached circles around them. Much closer to home, Dambrot hadn't played basketball since high school when he started coaching.

Jackson and Kerr played key roles on Championship teams; don’t think for a minute that didn’t make them better coaches.  I’ll take a coach that actually played the game at a high level over a guy who didn’t.

I certainly didn't mean to suggest I'd prefer someone not so accomplished on the court. I was just trying to say the skills don't really correlate.

The fact is Dru has never been a head coach before so all of these experiences are new to him from that perspective. There is a significant difference being one player on a team versus being the person in charge of the program and feeling responsible for every win and loss.

Let’s play well at Fordham. Go Dukes.

Agreed. There has been obvious growth from the start of the season to now how Dru interacts with officials, pushes buttons of the players to put a spark underneath them, and his overall vocality on the sideline. Lots of growth to come… He is still very new at this to your point.

Not when you were a point guard and like a coach on the floor.  I just don’t buy the premise that he has to learn everything about game management over again because he is a Head Coach instead of the Assistant Head Coach , or a pro player.  I would think the off-the-court duties might take some adjustment but he was exposed to that as Asst HC.

Never said he has to learn everything, he doesn't.  But he does have to learn how to handle an entire team, his coaches...he is in charge of what plays to use, or approve or not approve and much more.  The psychology to use for the program after getting blown out like he did.  How to get ready to go on the road...all of these as a head coach as he has never been one.  But no, not everything.  But my opinion is it's a different perspective and responsbility.  But we can disagree.

Dayton came out extremely hot again tonight. Absolutely clobbering Joe’s right now.

Dukes depth will prevail in the end. The team has just got to keep the faith and continue to believe and bounce back from that Dayton debacle. We get another shot at them. Show up at Fordham and we'll be OK.

I was planning on switching over to SBU/VCU at 9 but Joes has actually made this tight again with Dayton.
