Oh boy- BC beat Florida State 28-13. Dukes are facing a damn good team!
Hope they come in to this one all cocky.
Dukes couldn't want a bigger challenge.
Here’s hoping for a flashback to 1942 (although only on the football field please). The 1942 BC team went into their final regular season game against Holy Cross feeling so confident of victory that they had already booked a party to celebrate the team’s national championship. The Eagles were ranked #1 in the country and the final polls were still taken before bowl games. One problem: Holy Cross won 55-12.
Now the situations aren’t totally similar. Holy Cross was still playing at the top level of college football; and in fact would go to the Orange Bowl three years later. They were a mediocre 5-4-1 that year though, including a 25-0 loss to the Dukes.
BC will no doubt be coming in feeling good about themselves. While I am seemingly in the minority in this, I don’t think Bill O’Brien is a good coach either. If we can hang tough early they may tense up a bit since the FSU win puts even more pressure on them to not just win, but win big. Will that mental advantage be enough to overcome the physical disadvantages on the field? I don’t know, but it can’t hurt.
