Dukes a litle cold, at mid-quarter timeout, up 9.

Duquesne is playing OUTSTANDING defense and has Cleveland State flustered.  If we can knock down some shots we can blow this open.  Have missed a few wide open foul-line jumpers, but love the rotation to the foul line as that is the open area in this CSU zone defense.

Would like to see us pump fake and drive for the layup from the foul line moving forward.

Dukes up 11 at half, 29-18.

Want to see the Dukes to be more decisive when we get the ball at the foul line.  You need to act quickly - shoot or drive and the ball is getting stuck and we are allowing CSU to react and defend.

Dukes timeout, lead cut to 5, 31-26.

Kiandre Browne suffers an ankle injury, goes to the bench and hits 2 3's and a fastbreak layup.

Still very indecisive at the foul line and passing the ball around the perimter and now looking to knock down 3's instead of driving the paint, where the CSU post players has 3 fouls, but we are ignoring the dribble-drive.

Mid-quarter timeout, Dukes up only 3.

Browne back in the game.  We are stuck on offense, passing the ball along the perimter and each player seems to be afraid to do anything.  It looks to me CSU is about to run us off the floor.  Don't understand what is being said in these timeouts, but we are playing scared for some reason.  Passing around the perimter is playing into CSU's defensive gameplan.

Dukes up 42-37 end of 3rd.  Meg misses FT and CSU hits a 40-foot 3 at the buzzer to cut it to 5.

Dukes finally started to use the foul-line to their advantage and attacked with a back-cut that led to layups on consecutive posessions.  CSU shot much better in 3rd quarter, will likely try to get the ball inside more in 4th.

Again we need to be more aggressive with the ball at the foul line, if we continue to stall, CSU will then wall up and defend the perimter, while we pass around and be forced to throw up a 3

That was a long 3 seconds there at the end of the quarter.

Cleveland’s defense is shutting us down. Not enough quick ball movement. They appear faster than us. It doesn’t look good…watch the turnovers.

Dukes up 1, 47-46 mid-quarter timeout.

We are in trouble - CSU attacked the basket, we fouled and they got into the bonus with 6 mins left.  Again, we are indecisiive and pass the ball around the perimter with no threat of a dribble-drive.  CSU has all of the momentum and going to the line...again.

The turnovers are ridiculous! Need more discipline.
We are shooting foul shots like the men’s team.

CSU up 52-50 with :52 left.

CSU has lived in the paint and our offense has been stagnant the entire 2nd half.

The Dukes had a nice ride through the NIT. THE BETTER team won.

FAM, I disagree.

We led by 13 early in 2nd half.  This was a huge opportunity lost and we should have won this game.  We didn't win because our offense stopped being aggressive, we made no adjustments and as we did all year, we passed the ball on the perimter.

We had no idea of how to attack the zone, the player at the foul line was not ready to do anything with the ball.  Outside of the two cuts to the hoop, we just stood around and passed the ball on the perimter while the shot clock wound down.

The game was won because CSU attacked the basket in the 4th quarter and drew fouls.  If you don't drive the paint, you can't draw a foul.  We were too passive in the 2nd half, CSU was not.

This comes down to coaching.  One coach figured out how to have his team beat the defense and the other coach made no adjustments despite having a lead most of the game.

This game was lost because our coach was like a deer in the headlights and had no clue what to do in the 2nd half.

This loss is on Burt.

The way your comments are phrased sometimes makes it feel like there’s no room for further discussion. The tone and sense of finality can make it hard to engage or explore other perspectives. The way interactions have gone with others make it feel not worth bothering.

And then you make comments elsewhere that are like “since no one has rebutted I must be right.” It really takes the enjoyment away from talking about the team.

Dan Burt had a good interview with Zak on you tube regarding the last game and season.

Thanks for the comments, but I don’t understand your point that I somehow shut down discussion with my “tone” and I don’t recall ever stating that anything to the effect that “I must be right” if no one posts a different point of view.  That has never been my intention with my posts.

My whole approach has been to bring discussion to this forum, which for the most part had little interest in the women’s team.  For most of the season, there was very little activity or discussion.  I am a “basketball junkie” and have become increasingly frustrated with the direction of the women’s program, and since this is the only forum where we do discuss our team, I post my observations.

By no means am I an expert, nor do I feel that I am shutting down discussion.  In fact, I have stated on multiple occasions that I welcome more discussion and hope that others would be willing to join in.  I’ve stated my background as it relates to the foundation for the points I am trying to make.  I try to be precise with the level of detail so that it is easily understood by those who wish to comment on my analysis and observations.  I don’t think it is beneficial to anyone to just make a generic, negative comment without backing it up with evidence to why the comment was made.  I want to provide as much detail so that anyone who reads the message is informed and understands why I am making the statement to begin with.
