Many of us have been saying this for years!

Duquesne Football needs 2 things to make a huge leap to excellence.

1. A field that isn’t made fun of by incoming teams.  I was there on a day Marshall’s soccer team was laughing at it.   Build the home bleachers up a few rows.  There is room to take out parking and move the road back a lane.  Then make some real bleachers on the home side and some in the west end zone to make it a horseshoe set up.  Heck, put some private boxes atop the swimming pool even.  OR play a few games at Highmark.

If you build it, they will come.

2. Your idea of an A-10 Football Conference.  Duquesne, Dayton, Fordham, Rhode Island, Richmond, Davidson.   Then add a few other associate members and see id LaSalle would restart.

In theory this would be a good idea.   The A10 conference.  However Richmond and Rhody give a significant number of football scholarships.   Duquesne gives less than both mentioned but has football scholarships.

Dayton and Davidson don’t give any.  They give grant in aid money but significantly less than scholarships.

That is why they are in different conferences now.    The competitive advantage or disadvantage is too great for a conference.

When a new school joins a conference there is a period (I think it is three years) before they become eligible for post season play.  If there is a TOTALY NEW FOOTBALL CONFERENCE does anyone know what restrictions if any there might be.  This COULD happen if there was an "A-10 Football Conference"

Thanks

It’s nice to think about but too many unknowns to think it could happen anytime soon.

Dayton and Davidson are non-scholarship - are they interested in changing that, and spending the money that would require?

Do Richmond and URI want to go to a new conference where the best team other than them would be a former NEC school alongside a couple of middling Pioneer programs? Note that NEC and Pioneer are consistently among the worst rated FCS conferences.

Does Duquesne want to go up to full scholarship? Pretty sure we’re not if I recall. Can they afford it? Is there interest?

Not to mention why LaSalle would bring back their program. I can’t imagine there’s a great deal of hype for it. They ended on an 0-10 season and then two years later had the multimillion dollar lawsuit because of the Preston Plevretes injury (which happened at Rooney and was scary as hell).

It’s a fun thought experiment but it doesn’t feel realistic.

Agree 100% with all your points.  The A10 used to have a football conference.  And if there was any appetite by schools for it to return, they would.
