Re: Get On The Record 2018 - 2019

Put me down for 19 wins.  I know we have lots of size and depth at least on paper, but the O.O.C schedule has been upgraded and it will take time to assimilate all the new pieces to the team.  As long as we improve on last year's record and get better as the season progresses, I will be happy.  Let's Go Dukes!  Hope to see everyone at Palumbo

Re: Get On The Record 2018 - 2019

You guys remember Ron Everhart's second year? Coach Dambrot's is going to be much, much, better. Not calling anyone out, but predicting 15 wins for a team and coach with this much talent means, I think, you expect 10 guys to play with turf toe every night. Chemistry will come; in the meantime, Eric Williams is a stud, Mike Lewis is a star, we have 25 fouls to give in the paint, we have THREE true point guards and two other guys who can play the position. I suspect we'll go after it hard on defense. If shots fall, if we play fundamentally sound, if we hit FTs, consistently, this won't be a red and blue wave, it will be a tsunami.

Ron's second team was 16-7 before collapsing down the stretch. The 2011 team was 16-5, Ferry's 2016 team was 15-7. All suffered the "Duquesne collapse". I could add last year's team to the list, but we all know that team was playing over it's head, and ran out of gas. I'm just hoping we can avoid the second half collapse this season.

Seeing that I am the only one who selected 15 wins, regardless of wether you say you are not calling me out, you are. So mister trash talker, I propose a friendly wager. See I was a major trash talker in the seventies and backed it up.  As an adult, coach for thirty five plus years and as a high school referee for twenty plus years, I realized how immature trash talking is, and would not permit my players I coached or players I refereed to allow that nonsense to go on. So here is the wager, I predicted 15 wins and you selected 25 for total win total of regular seasons games as per CLK. 20 wins is the middle ground. Any wins over twenty you win and conversely any wins under twenty I win. The loser makes a contribution to the charity of the winners choice. And if it hits that exact prediction you double the wager ! You set the wager amount.

Re: Get On The Record 2018 - 2019

8-5 OOC
9 - 9 Conference
1-1 A10 Tourney

18 - 15 total

Hoping I'm wrong and they get to 20 wins, but just trying to stay realistic with such a brand new team. I'm hoping to see consistent improvement as the year goes on and look for some real noise in 2019-20

I'd be very disappointed with 8-5 ooc. That would basically mean they lost to W&M, ND, Pitt, PSU, and Marshall, basically every team with a pulse. If you can't get any wins against those teams, I can't see being able to go 9-9 in A10 play. To me, you can't go winless against that group if you plan to have any kind of a breakthrough season.
I think it's important to give the perception that the program is moving forward. Sure, us die hards will be there regardless, but if we lose every time we play a half decent team in the ooc, the perception among casual fans will be, "same old garbage Duquesne", and Palumbo will be empty when we start league play, robbing us of any home court advantage, and leading to more bad losses at home. To build a buzz, we have to get some good scalps, and go into league play with an impressive record. 10-3 would do the trick, 11-2 would really get folks buzzing.

I completely agree with you, I'm just wary of getting my hopes up too high. Fact is, the whole team basically turned over and it's going to take some time to gel. My thinking is that we might have some bad OOC loses due to the lack of chemistry early on but with KD at the helm we get better as the season goes on and have a relatively strong conference showing. I'd be content with that, my thinking the whole time has been the focus should be on year 3.

Not to be negative, but the OOC schedule scares me, its either cupcakes we will handle with no problem or games that are very lose-able. I think with this much turnover you have to expect some growing pains, that usually holds true across all sports.

Again, hope I'm wrong and you're right, just trying to be realistic and give an honest prediction.

Ahhh... A holiday in McKeesport.
Perhaps if the Dukes return to national relevance, then McKeesport might be next?

I'd put my money on the Dukes way before McKeesport.

I'll go with 24 victories, including an unexpected A-10 tournament run resulting in our first NCAA appearance since 1977.  Go Dukes!

Re: Get On The Record 2018 - 2019

I've waited till the last minute coz it's just so tough, with a team so young with so many players I haven't even seen yet.  Just about anything would be pure guess.  I think 18 wins would be pretty amazing, but I'm going to predict 20 wins, figuring they'll get better as the season goes along.

Because it's such a tough year to predict, in my opinion there should be multiple prizes.  I suggest that first prize could be a night in McKeesport & second prize could be two nights in McKeesport.

Re: Get On The Record 2018 - 2019

Can this "last minute absentee vote" be recorded??  Season has NOT yet started -

17 wins regular season - 1 Win A-10 Tourney - 1 Win CBI -  19 wins total -  MOST years we have SOME idea at the start of a season based on returning players/graduated players and might have some idea about the new comers -- THIS year we have LITTLE IDEA about WHO will be getting the playing time - let alone HOW they will perform -  Mostly based on Drambot's ability to "mix and match" and considering there is VERY LITTLE (if any Home Court Advantage at Palumbo -  Maybe THAT will change)

Re: Get On The Record 2018 - 2019

I am going 16 wins. I think the team will be better than last year, but the schedule last year had more give-me games, so it wouldn't surprise me to see the record regress a little this year, in fact. I am hoping to be wrong and the team will be more successful than that, but I need to see it before I get overly optimistic. I also think that for the team to be successful, the freshman bigs will need to be above average A10 players pretty quickly. That is a possibility, of course, but that is a pretty big ask for all of them.

Really liked the way the dukes took care of the ball. Only 9 turnovers with 2 at the end when they were running clock.
