Well, if you want to play these games and win when you aren’t overmatched; you need a higher level of coaching. When you’re playing FBS schools it’s just a big jump for the coaching staff as well as the players. They seem to struggle even beating the better-coached teams in the NEC! You are dead on. His style of coaching is antiquated and Duquesne really should move on from him if they want to be a serious contender. Problem is...he has 100+ wins, he's local, homegrown yinzer and athletics really shot their wad ($$) to bring in Dambrot. Sad thing is, Duquesne could be known as a Football school if they were willing to spend some of the basketball money. God knows they haven't been taken seriously on the Basketball side. 1 of 1

Every coach has strengths and weaknesses. Schmidt does a great job recruiting, especially with the smallest “stadium” in the nation and is strong in pregame preparation. He’s a good “teacher” of the game with player development but is slow making in-game adjustments of player personnel, clock management, play calling and pacing. In short, he’s stubborn with his game planning and player selection when they need to adapt. 1 of 1
