Nebraska MTE

Finally some scheduling news! Not a great field, but a game against any Big Ten team should be good for the Net Ranking.

Thanks for the link.  This is just like the Kentucky MTE last year where we host two games and then play on the road against Nebraska.  Hopefully, we will get a Power 5 scalp this year,

Re: Nebraska MTE

Good news!  Nice opportunity for the Dukes to beat a Big Ten (and a likely top 100 team) on the road. The MTE also allows the Dukes to play 31 regular season games instead of 29.

Re: Nebraska MTE

Stony Brook and Rider are the other 2 teams the Dukes will host.   Decent mix, would be nice to get a P5 road win.   Could use another P5 or quality road game to boost up SOS.  After last years final 4, does P5 really mean as much?

It would be nice to get Pitt or WVU back on the schedule.  Even PSU.  Shameful that these games can no longer get scheduled

Re: Nebraska MTE

We all know that a relatively close loss to a P5 is way better than a resounding win over a creampuff!
Would love to see 2 or 3 P5 teams on the schedule though not always easy to do. Would almost always have to be road games.

Re: Nebraska MTE

We should play road games OOC, more than just at Nebraska and the game at LeBron's school.   Play anyone, at St Francis, just get some road trips before having to go to Dayton or St Lou, which are tough places to play.
I could see us playing WVU or PSU again(PSU coach was just at VCU, right?), and should play RMU, and forget pitt exists.

It's not so much P5 as compared to the Dukes' record against Quad 1 and Quad 2 teams (most of these teams would be members of the Top 7 conferences (P5, plus Big East plus Mountain West).  Here is the criteria from last year:

What is a Quadrant 1 win?
- Home games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 1-30
- Neutral games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 1-50
- Away games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 1-75
What is a Quadrant 2 win?
- Home games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 31-75
- Neutral games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 51-100
- Away games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 76-135
What is a Quadrant 3 win?
- Home games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 76-160
- Neutral games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 101-200
- Away games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 135-240
What is a Quadrant 4 win?
- Home games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 161-363
- Neutral games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 201-363
- Away games vs. opponents with NET ranking of 241-363

Last year, the entire A10 conference was only able to play a total of 30 Quad 1 games; these games are very hard to schedule.  Unfortunately, the A10 finished 3-27 in these Quad 1 games.  Unless your A10 team is a near lock to be a Top 75 team (VCU and maybe Dayton/Saint Louis fell into this category last year), why would a top program agree to play you since it's only going to give you at best a Quad 3 win or at worse, a Quad 3/4 loss?  Very little upside with a win and a lot of downside with a loss.

Here was the Dukes Quad breakdown:
Dukes finished at #137 in the NET (so a win against the Dukes only got our opponent a Quad 3 win).
Dukes Quad 1 Record: 0-1
Dukes Quad 2 Record: 1-3
Dukes Quad 3 Record:  9-7
Dukes Quad 4 Record: 10-2

When you combine the difficulties in scheduling non-conference Quad 1 and Quad 2 games AND have a really down year in the A10 conference (with only 3 teams in the top 100), at large bids become scarce or non-existent.

The A10 needs to do more in finding conference partners for scheduling purposes (sort of like the A10/Mountain West challenge games that were blown up by Covid).  When the projected top teams in the respective conferences play each other, it can benefit both teams.  And the Dukes need to participate in more 8 team tournament formats so that there are opportunities to get two Quad 1/2 games on a neutral site.  This Nebraska MTE will likely get the Dukes a Quad 2 game and two Quad 3/4 games against Stonybrook and Rider.

Re: Nebraska MTE

As an added incentive, the winner of this game will be the inaugural recipient of the Danny Nee Cup.

Agree. In the English I learned, a "quadrant" is one-fourth of something. So I thought a Quad 1 team was in the top 90 or so. In this scheme, the top group is smallest and the bottom group is largest. This just makes it even harder to schedule better teams because to get an at-large NCAA bid the "quads" have to be considered. This is Pitt's only justification for avoiding us.
