Offline Offline Thanks for the link. I watch some of the first half. My thoughts are that Sanders looked really slow and dogged it on defense. It looked like he was laboring running the court. If you or anyone else watched I would be interested in your thoughts. Offline Watched the first quarter while Sanders was in. As advertised, he can rebound. He never had the ball thrown to him. Typical all-star game. The ball never got past the guards who launched from Rockefeller Center. Did not see either team try to play inside out basketball. Got nothing from the game at all except some Italian kid (Campuano???) who launched about 15 threes and hit about six. There was not enough "basketball" to base any opinion of Sanders. Offline Thanks for the link. I watch some of the first half. My thoughts are that Sanders looked really slow and dogged it on defense. It looked like he was laboring running the court. If you or anyone else watched I would be interested in your thoughts. I did notice that there were a few times when Sanders didn't make the effort to cross the half court line when his team, made up of public school students, gathered a defensive rebound or made a steal, and headed upcourt. I think it was more an issue of his laziness rather than his slowness. However, he seemed to have resaonable speed on the occasions when he decided to bring the ball up court, inspite of the fact that he was paired with 4 guards, after his getting a rebound and then dribbled it all the way to the hoop. I can recall that he made two or three very nice passes to players under the basket for scores - a rarity in that game. If I'm correct on my estimate of his successful passes, he may have the most assists in the game. If he shows that causual of an attitude when he arrives on the Bluff, he will be getting yelled at constantly in practice by the coaches. Given the ball-hogosity and the Ernie no-D(gregorio) played in that game by almost all players, I'm not sure if we can use it as a fair measure of Mr. Sanders' talent. Offline I'll get shot for bringing up the past, but I remember an all star game years ago in which NYC kids played a Russian club. The New Yorkers were loaded with future UNC, Duke, Villanova, etc., players. The New Yorkers were loaded with future UNC, Duke, Villanova, etc., players. Whitehead never became the player we thought he would. If he had, Carroll might have posted more than one winning season. He was solid, but based on his hype, I would have expected him to play at an Aaron Jackson level at the least, and he didn't. Offline I'll get shot for bringing up the past, but I remember an all star game years ago in which NYC kids played a Russian club. The New Yorkers were loaded with future UNC, Duke, Villanova, etc., players. Glad you brought that up. As I recall, Effrem had a great game for Dukes against #10-ranked Florida State at the Palumbo on 12/15/92. I believe Effrem had around 18 pts. that game which the Dukes won. 91-84. I rank that game in the top five games I witnessed at the Palumbo. That was the one season Duquesne unwisely left the A-10 for the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. That absolutely wrecked what John Carroll was trying to do. BC should have been fired right then. Offline Yep, that is correct. I recall that BC felt we had more in common with the schools in the MCC, especially with Dayton , Xavier and Butler in the conference at the time. Of course Dayton and Xavier promptly left after one seaason to join the A-10, so we had to buy our way back into the A-10; but the damage was done, and it lead to the failure of John Carroll as a coach. Offline Part of BC's selling point was that Notre Dame had some kind of loose alliance with the MCC and we were promised a home and away series with the Irish. And ironically, the breakup of the MCC started when Dayton and Xavier bolted and later ended up in the A10. Offline Yep, that is correct. Of course Dayton and Xavier promptly left after one seaason to join the A-10, so we had to buy our way back into the A-10; but the damage was done, and it lead to the failure of John Carroll as a coach. I thought that Duquesne had sued Dayton for providing misleading information to Duquesne to lure it into joining the MCC. Duquesne claimed that Dayton had already decided that it was going to leave the MCC while it was strongly encouraging the Dukes to join with the Flyers and Musketeers in the MCC. Duquesne's argument was that it would have never left the A-10 if it had known that Dayton and Xavier were going to leave MCC the year after the Dukes had joined that conference. The Dukes were forced to pay the A-10's re-entry fee of $250,000 after it decided to get out of the MCC. I can recall that during a home game with Dayton soon after it became a member of the A-10 Mossie Murphy yelled at the Dayton team and bench during a time out about its deceptive influence ultimately resulted in a sizable financial expense to Duquesne. I believe his language was a bit salty. I was under the impression that there was an out-of-court settlement of this isuue. However, I was never able to confirm this in any discussion I had with the athletic department staff; nor do I recall reading any newspaper accounts about a settlement. Offline Yep, that is correct. However, I was never able to confirm this in any discussion I had with the athletic department staff; nor do I recall reading any newspaper accounts about a settlement. Actually, Xavier didn't leave. It was Dayton, who left to join the Great Midwest. When the bulk of that league merged with the Metro Conference to form CUSA, Dayton was left out in the cold. Fortunately for them, the Big East raided the A10 of WVU, and Rutgers, so the A10 filled the gap with Xavier, Dayton, and LaSalle of the MCC, plus Fordham. The Dukes had already rejoined the A10 before this happened. Offline Offline Sanders was named 1st Team All State Offline Sanders was named 1st Team All State Not bad! Offline With four returning "front court" players (I still hope Gill figures out he's not Tony Petrarca), no matter how good this kid is he must be worked more intelligently into the lineup. What Ferry did with Robinson and Powell last season was silly. Offline Maybe Gill thinks he's Doug Arnold!! (Although I hope Gill is around for four years instead of two) Offline Yep, that is correct. The Dukes had already rejoined the A10 before this happened. I believe I mentioned this before but Ray Goss told me directly that one of the big reasons for the move was the fear that the A-10 would be decimated. He mentioned Rutgers and WVU leaving, also Temple being courted by the Big East (I think). I am sure that contributed to BC's decision to find the best landing spot he could. 1 of 1

I've seen allstar games before, but I was somewhat surprised about the extent of ball-hogging by most of the players. It generally wasn't an entertaining game to watch. I thought that the video was of substandard qualitiy and there was very little info provided by the sole announcer as to the stats on each player throughout the game. I'm going to check back to the NYC Mayor's Cup Internet site later today to see if the box score is available. If that info is available, I'll provide a link to the site. •Thread Starter

The star of the game, though, was Effrem Whitehead.
