This must be Dr. Dougherty's fault too

Danny Hurley. Getting the job done.

PS, I advocated for this guy many times in the past. He appears to be on track towards getting URI back to the NCAA Tournament despite the mess that he inherited when he started at URI.

URI was a winning program under Jim Baron. I know they were bad his last year there, but it's not correct to act like Hurley took over Fordham. The five year stretch that URI had before Baron's last year, was better by far than any five year stretch Duquesne has had since the string of teams late in the Manning era. The fact that fans were calling for Baron's head, even before the last year, sure tells you the difference in expectations between the two programs. Keep in mind that Baron inherited a disaster when he took over at URI.

Re: This must be Dr. Dougherty's fault too

Why should it be anyone's fault? The kid just made a choice and saw a better opportunity at URI than at any of the ten other schools that offered.  I'm sure he considered the fact that Duquesne will have Micah next year and he is also a 3-point shooter.  URI wasn't a great outside shooting team, so he can probably fit in well; despite the fact that they sucked at the end of the season, they can make the case that they are closer to making the tournament than a lot of other teams that were on his list.

Re: This must be Dr. Dougherty's fault too

Jim Baron won 20+ games 5 out of his last 6 years at URI.

This is after he took over the program fresh off three straight NCAA appearances, one of which was an Elite 8.

The programs are not comparable. Good job by URI getting McGlynn, he fits their need for a shooter. I would agree that with Mason and Colter's shooting he probably did not want to run the risk of not playing a lot his last year of eligibility.

Actually, Baron took over the program after Jerry DeGregorio ran it into the ground.

Re: This must be Dr. Dougherty's fault too

Because that's what we do when something doesn't go our way. We blame the administration. PS, Baron was fired for a reason. He didn't leave a roster full of Tournament studs. Hurley built that team. Let's not forget Harrick won by cheating. Lamar Odom was no honor student.

Re: This must be Dr. Dougherty's fault too

If it makes anyone feel better, I spoke to someone who has seen McGlynn play and he felt that he wasn't a guy who was going to step in and play big minutes for either URI or any of the other programs on his list.  He felt that McGlynn would fit in as a sub off the bench to try and provide an additional 3-point shooter, but not all that athletic, and not a great ballhandler.  That of course must be qualified as one man's opinion, but someone who definitely knows the game.

levon, any insights on who we might sign? I think the official signing period is just about to end?

Still some time left, but  sources tell me that had a JC recruit in this weekend, probably a 3-man.
