Duquesne 62 #20/24 WVU 54

First time since 1994 DU men and women have beaten WVU in the same year.

Women were monsters from the free throw line.  22 of 27 but the majority of the misses were late when the game was well in hand.

14 steals.  Wumi led with 15 points and Orsi had 12

Vanessa played well and had 10.

DU lead from start to finish!!!

Great win!!

Re: Duquesne 62 #20/24 WVU 54

And the WVU announcers on Root said something particuliarly bizarre.  Apparently, tonight's loss was especially tough for WVU as WVU had revenge on their minds.  WVU didn't like the way DU celebrated when they beat the Mountaineers at Palumbo.   From what I remember it was a close game that we won in the last 30 seconds.   I was there and remember they were excited.

I guess you can't be happy now after a win.

We had 7 votes for top 25.   They way they ignore this team I expect them to maybe double that total next week.

Great win by the women. This is the first time WVU men's and women's basketball teams both lost to Duquesne in the same season since 1994

I'm not going to cry about a lack of attention. We really hadn't done enough to be ranked. We have now!!!

Others receiving votes: Arkansas 94, Miami (FL) 58, Nebraska 52, Iowa State 41, Ohio State 37, Vanderbilt 15, Delaware 15, Michigan 10, Michigan State 9, Duquesne 7, Chattanooga 7, Syracuse 6, Villanova 5, Iowa 5, Toledo 2, Rutgers 1, Gonzaga 1

Don't be disappointed if we are not ranked next week, just too many teams to pass in one week.  And in USA Today pool we have not received any votes yet.

They go to the New Hamphise to play Dartmouth in the first round of their tournament.  Dartmouth is pretty bad.  They should win that and then play the winner of Delaware (rematch)/Villanova.   Both Delaware and Villanova are in others receiving votes in AP Top 25.

One final post.   I really hope that we can get Carly Vendemia back for the later portion of conference play.

Would rather play Villanova.

I really wasn't crying about the lack of attention.  Should have said we don't have the name recognition to the voters as the BCS schools do.  Agreed I would rather play Villanova too.  I don't believe Delaware's All American player has recovered from her illness but I could be wrong.

It is my understanding from talking to Carly's family members that she unfortunately will not be back to play for the Dukes this season or in the future. She needs plenty of time for her foot to properly heal.  I do agree that having a healthy Carly back would provide this team with depth under the boards that would likely make the difference in several tight games.

Vanessa's play tonight was so enjoyable to watch.  I believe this was the first game that she scored since she returned to the line-up this season.  What a game for her to get the lid off of the hoop.

That is disappointing to hear.  I wish her well.

Hopefully the Lady Dukes will "GO DANCING"  (i.e the BIG Dance (NCAA) NOT Dancing with the Stars) in March -  Superb job using those quick hands for all the steals/deflections.  Their Christmas Vacation will probably be a little sweeter now.

GREAT JOB LADIES!!!!

The Blue Hens' star, Elena Della Donne, returned to the line-up for Delaware's home game against #9 Maryland on Thursday night.  She was rusty and played well beneath her usual exceptional level and Delaware lost, 69-53.  Della Donne scored 19 pts.; however, she was only 7 for 23 from the field.

I would guess that this loss to Maryland should reduce the number of points that Delaware might get in next week's AP Women's Poll and might result in their falling out of the others getting votes.  There were a total of 7 games tonight involving Top 25 teams.  Besides the Dukes' victory over WVU, there was only one other Top 25 team that lost.  CS Northridge beat #12 UCLA, 77-72.

Video of post-game comments of WVU's losing coach, Mike Carey: http://www.wvusports.com/mediaplayer.cfm?streamID=1808

This is probably the softest voice that you'll ever hear Carey use.  He's a yeller and curser from the sidelines.

No shame to losing to duquesne and sms.  Its insulting to see carey and huggins mope and whine and tear up when discussing their loss to duquesne. Just proves that they think we are so lowly that they are mortified to lose

Hopefully they will both get used to that feeling!
