The dysfunction goes waaaay back. The glory years had nothing to do with having the support of the administration. It was all the good fortune to have hired Chick Davies as coach, and for his proteges to also have been excellent. Those coaches should get all the credit for our success. When they hired a less capable person, the house of cards collapsed. The administration has never seen the value of the program, deemphasizing the program in the mid 50's, after our greatest success. It must be a Pittsburgh thing, as Pitt matched our stupidity by running off Jock Sutherland, and Jackie Sherrill.
