    Question for the room

    Now that the AD dust has settled I like to bring up a non bb related topic.

    Buried in the press release about Amodio leaving was the addition of women's bowling. 

    I know some have commented on it.  But reallly women's bowling?

    I'm all for supporting women's sports and really like the strides that the women's teams at Duquesne have made.  Wouldn't it be wiser to allocate our already stretched athletic dollars to the existing women's sports instead of adding a new sport?

    Does anyone know where this came from? 

    For the life of me I can't understand that decision and now that we have a new AD that will hopefully listen I hope he will reconsider the addition of women's bowling.  I plan on writing him and letting him know my opinion on this topic and several others.

    My understanding is that the University was lacking a women's sport that was causing compliance issues.  Thus the "womens" part for bowling.  Not sure if that is the case but it sounds logical...just like the Patriots stole plays from other locker rooms.

    That link says D1 schools must sponsor 7 men's and 7 women's sports.   Or 6 men's sports and 8 women's sports.   We follow the 6/8 model as do many schools with football.   

    It is not a qualification issue.  It is not even a title IX issue.  Just spend more money on the existing sports.

    All of the above may be true but I still don't have a problem with adding women's bowling.  Would like to see them bring back sports that GA killed but that's another story.

    It just goes against the narrative that was fed to us when the sports were cut.  I love to see the other sports reinstated. 

    But it just seems to me that they added a women's sports at the expense of the existing women's sports.
