Offline College AD @collegead@collegead.@GoDuquesne seeks an Assistant Athletic Director, Strategic Marketing and Branding. … Offline Is this a new position that wasn't in place before the new AD? Last edited by FAM (11/09/2015 2:41 pm) Offline I don't know the answers to your questions, but there is definitely a problem. The PG sports better known as the PItt News had no mention of the Dukes Women's soccer title today, very disappointing, not even a small note. Offline At the risk of seeming immodest, I'd be perfect for this, but Duquesne couldn't afford me. It is not a new job. The person who did this Nicole Imbrgno (sp?) that left DU to go to the back to U of Memphis in August. LOL!! The Pitt folks would tell you it's the Nittany News. If you want an example of Nicole's impact, @DuqFB, the football teams Twitter account last tweet was 7/23/15. Nicole started back at Memphis August 1. An example of the "that's not my job" attitude that staff has. Clearly the PG has a heavy bias toward Pitt, No, just pointing out that others might feel differently. Pitters think that the PG is out to get them, and that they're biased towards Penn State, so it's funny to me when others think that they have the paper in their pocket. As far as Pitt being beloved, I don't root for their hoop team, but I stopped wasting my time rooting against them. Makes basketball season much more enjoyable when I don't have to feel miserable when they win, which they've done a lot lately. As for football, sure I root for Pitt. I root for WVU too. I used to like Penn State most of all, but the Sandusky thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. Plus I really don't care about the Big Ten, so I'm less of a Penn State fan than I used to be. I guess by your standards, I shouldn't follow college football, since our "enemies" play it at the top level. They'll appreciate the beer money, or date money, or extra cash for their textbooks. IMHO, the school needs someone who can build and implement a strategic plan to define and communicate the brand. They have faculty who teach marketing. Why not enlist their help both in the recruitment & interview process as well as in the formulation of that strategic plan? Offline To answer your question, we have an excellently qualified faculty member. His name is Ron Dick. I graduated in 2010 and took his sports management class. I have to make two initial posts before I can add a link, but I will include is academic resume in a minute, it is stunning. Assistant AD ticket sales at university of Houston, director of sales for the NBA Philadelphia 76ers, amongst many other leadership and development rules for a number of athletic programs. On top of all that he is a funny, energetic, and very charismatic guy. I love Duquesne hoops and always wished he would get more involved. He does go to the games though. He is a huge basketball guy having coached ncaa women's teams and working as an nba executive. Offline 2nd post Offline He was also an nba scout and an assistant coach for a women's professional team! Duqkurt, if that job's all about making tweets, then it's no wonder the brand is where it is. What you described above though was Derda's position as the former assistant AD. I'm giving her credit because the improvement in social media and professionalism of the social media content prior to her and after she took the position. I know that she was in charge of the Duquesne 100 campaign that looks very professional. Last edited by duqkurt (11/10/2015 12:13 pm) Offline Always jumping to the defense of your beloved Pitt. I don't really care who you root for, just making my point about the Pitt News or Post Gazette if you prefer. Any loss by Pitt has multiple silver linings, while losses by other schools are reported in a negative manner. I'm just fed up with the PG Sports, it is really an amateur venture, and dedicated to promoting Pitt football which has been poor to mediocre for the last 40 years, I just don't see how they deserve so much coverage. When other teams lose for 40-years they are no longer considered relevant. Offline Can I get an EAT <RHYMES WITH PITT> PITT from levon1975? Offline Surprised no one has responded to my post about that faculty member Offline Probably because his CV or academic resume was not clipped to your 2nd post!!! I had occasion to meet Professor Dick and your comments about his abilities are most apt. Post his CV so others on the board may know a little more about him. Mea Culpa!! Now I see it. You believe he should be an assistant AD in charge of marketing? I have no beef with that. Offline His resume is on my post, immediately following my 2nd post. It only contains a link

Is someone being replaced?
Is it being added because the current media folks can't do their job?

Re: Any one here want to apply?
She did an excellent job. She was responsible for instituting the freshman pep rallies and the Duquesne 100 basketball campaign. #PutEmUp was her idea among others.
She was responsible for almost every tweet and Facebook post that the Ath Department made across every sport. And she dragged DU's social media presence into modern times.
FYI - it has fallen off noticibly since her departure
And if you would tweet her or ask her a question, she would RESPOND to you. A rare quality amongst DU employees.
She honestly was one of the bright spots in that department. She should have been promoted to Derda's job after he left for Learfield.

An FCS football program whose last tweet was July 23, 2025. If you think I'm wrong, check out @DuqFb. A dormant Twitter account during football season must help recuiting immensely.

I don't know if they are filling Derda's former position or not. I just like to give credit where it is due. And I believe she has been missed.
Also, just having spoken with her at a few events, she could have implemented the strategic plan you spoke of. She now teaches classes at Memphis and is an intern coordinator.

The same article was buried on page E-6 of today's (Tuesday's) P-G Sports page E-6 under the heading, "Morning Briefing" in the middle of the column as the 3rd soccer story. One would think that this story would stand on its own merit with the heading "Dukes' Women's Soccer Team headed to the NCAA." If it had been Pitt's soccer team that won its conference soccer tournament, the P-G would have given this far better attention than Duquesne received.
