Offline These are the same small thinkers who whined and cried about playing Dayton there last year. We sent them home with a loss. I want a big time program, like the one I watched when I was a kid. Go big, or go home! Why isn't GW moving conference games to the Verizon Center? St Louis has an on campus palace. Of course they don't need to play off campus. None of those schools has a pro arena on their campus like we do. Georgetown plays at the Verizon Center. St. John's plays at the Garden, Villanova plays big games at the Wells Fargo. GT, Nova, St. John's = big time. St. Joe's, GW, Richmond = small potatoes. If we had a nice 8,000 seat arena, I'd be happy to play all games there. We don't. We have a high school gym. If we start to win, we need to play 4-6 games a year at the Consol. Think big, go big. Stop being scared to succeed. If you aim low, that's as high as you will get. Aim for the stars, and even if you don't reach them, you might reach the moon. Get off the porch, and run with the big dogs!!!!!! Offline Yep and the program bleeds money while all of you scream to play at Consol. I also love how you scream about being small minded, how many season tickets have you purchased and have you made a single contribution to the program. Every team in Philly has a venue they can use, why doesn't Pitt move their games they have the same locker room set up. Come to the realization your not even close to being big time yet. Pitt has a 12,000 seat arena. No one is calling for the team to move all of their games to the Consol, but big games should be played there, and if we get the uptick in the program we're looking for, we should look to move a few more games there. The city of Pittsburgh will never take us seriously if we play all of our games at Palumbo. Being good enough to justify playing 4-6 games a year at the Consol should be a realistic goal of the program. Offline If we can't get 1,000 people to Palumbo, we have a much worse problem than venue selection. And we know we do have a problem. The program has taken so many steps backwards because of the lack of leadership by Amodio. I am getting such a kick out of how those who stood so firmly behind him now see the new AD as a breath of fresh air, especially when he brings them a Coke at halftime. Offline Duq81 Consol seats around 19,000 for hoops. If you don't think any D1 program given today's budgets wouldn't want a additional 7,000 seats at $30 a head your crazy. The dirty little secret is D1 hoops experienced a reduction in attendance overall last year thus the rules changes and concern. Friday is Light Up Night, Pitt plays Detroit at home if 3,500 people some how find their way to Consol it would be a miracle!!!!! That would be a great atmosphere in Palumbo. Last edited by The Dome (11/18/2015 9:20 am) Offline Dome, you are looking at this from a pure logistical point of view and you aren't necessarily wrong. However, our attendance issues, much like the Pirates, are not going to be addressed until we start winning. To win, you need good players. Good players are attracted to nice things and the allure of "big time." The CEC is a "nice thing," whereas palumbo is not. The players get excited to play there. Trust me on that, as I've heard it straight from them. Offline I understand using the CEC as a recruiting tool, and as I have said, I'm okay with huge games, but Penn State? Are you serious? They can barely get 4000 into the BJC at HOME! This could have been a really awesome game at Palumbo. I understand we all want to be big time, but that only happens when you win. Palumbo could actually be a rocking venue that would give us a home court advantage. As it stands, it will be a dead environment that won't benefit us in the least. Simms...have you sat in the B sections above the benches? Terrible angle. You cannot see 1/4th of the court. Penn State is not going to play us in Palumbo. That's the bottom line. No P5 program is going to want to play us in Palumbo. Virginia played at the Smith Center because with Maryland gone to the Big 10, they needed a DC game to keep their presence strong in that market. Palumbo may "rock" during the rare time that it's packed, but it's a small time venue. If you're happy with a small time program, then I have no argument with you. Penn State played Bucknell AT Bucknell last season. They don't exactly have an NBA arena in Lewisburg. Again. I am fine with playing Pitt and other b ball powers at CES, but I don't understand losing home court advantage to play at Consol against games we really should win. Bucknell got PSU to play in their dump. They also got Nova there and Wake Forest in recently. Offline I thought Bucknell built a new arena recently and got Villanova to play the opener there. Not sure you can call it a dump.

I would think that if this school of thought was the best way to go, I'd see GW, Richmond, St Joes, St. Louis, etc moving games off campus. Not happening.

I also think the viewing experience is 100% better in Palumbo. I would much rather watch a game there.

MSU went to Valpo one year, Bowling Green another.
St joes told Nova to shove it and play them exclusively at their home campus arena. We cave and play at Mellon Arena because it was being torn down.
UNC is going to Northern Iowas home arena and not some arena in Cedar falls or wherever.
MSU is going to Northeastern little band box and not Celtics arena.
Excuses. •Thread Starter
