Re: Penn State at the game

Loved seeing our defense swarming like it did tonight.  That's a very encouraging sign moving forward.

Re: Penn State at the game

Good thing to play this at Consol. Anybody still think Duquesne lost its home court advantage by playing there? Anybody think the attendance numbers were lower by not playing at Palumbo?

Other topic: To use an old horse racing saying: Nakye Sanders could be any kind. This kid's potential in unbounded.

Strong performance tonight from all the front-court players!

Re: Penn State at the game

This makes up for the 1 point loss to PSU in the Keystone Classic in '59.

Re: Penn State at the game

The spectacular performance that the Dukes put on tonight by making 17 of 34 3-pointers ties the school record for most such shots made in a single game set in the NIT game with Virginia Tech on March 18, 2009, when the Dukes made 17 of 30 3-pointers.  That's some kind of shootin'!

Re: Penn State at the game

We've all been tough on and frustrated with Jeremiah over his career, but I think it's time we give the kid credit. His shot is much improved and he is a solid defender and rebounder. He has really become someone we can count on

Re: Penn State at the game

Someone explain to me why this game was played at Consol. There were 3,500 people, which would not even fill Palumbo. The 15,000 empty seats are an advantage for Penn State, from the noise factor to the different venue for the Dukes.

Happy for and impressed by the win. Let's hope the momentum keeps building.

The women's team is awesome. Bunch of freshmen get significant minutes. April Robinson is a price of admission player.

Good night for Duquesne Nation.

PS, I'm not the enemy.

Why would anyone think you were the enemy? You know who the trolls are. They've not been seen since the season started. They will be here with the first loss.

As usual, nothing positive to say. If you want to play P5 teams, and they say Consol or else, you play at the Consol. The days of Pitt, PSU, and WVU playing at Palumbo are over. If we get this train rolling, we need to quit making regular trips to Loretto. One trip there, for every 3 trips here. If they don't like it, they get dropped from the schedule. We can play YSU if we need another local game.

Ritter:  wake up. If the game was in Palumbo, the attendance would NOT HAVE BEEN 3500.  Get a clue.

Re: Penn State at the game

Great Win tonight. Way to take control at the end of the first half and then open the throttle at the start of the second.

Loved seeing the man to man defense tonight.

Lewis looked 100% better than the guy who often had the ball whistle through his hands last year!  I like Lewis a lot.

Nice to see some size on the court in general for the Dukes, with Lewis, Robinson and Sanders.  Tired of seeing all those 6-7 and 6-8 small forwards playing the 5 like we have for all those years.

Josh Steele really impressed me tonight.

Nice to see the defense swarming to the ball so many times.

Loved the 7'1" Penn State center missing that dunk tonight. Classic

3-0 and looking good against a team from a big time conference. As I told my wife tonight, "It's like in football, we didn't play or beat Alabama or LSU, we beat Vanderbilt, but they ARE an SEC team!"

Our seniors are really showing their maturity and leadership.  I agree with the comment on Jones he has really stepped up his game.

Re: Penn State at the game

Anyone remember the chorus of Edddddd-dy Edddddddd-dy when Ed Scheuremann of Pitt, himself a gangly 7 footer, missed a breakaway dunk and hung on the rim until the fire department rescued him?

They make those demands to get an advantage. I was on campus when 1,500 people would be in the Civic Arena. You could hear the coaches yelling instructions. That was not a home game Friday night. It was like a neutral site setting, and that's fine for Pitt, wVU or a program that will bring 5,000 fans. If we are going to be a major program some day, the first step is telling teams Consol is not an option. If that is not OK with them, then let them go schedule the New Jersey Institute of Technology. That's the first step to turning the culture.

Re: Penn State at the game

When was the last time the Dukes dominated a so called major team like this? I really can't remember. We've upset some good teams, but I can't remember a dominant performance like this.

Re: Penn State at the game

Gents I will fight the Consol fight to the bitter end. LOL. I LOOOOONG for the day we can play over there regularly and even lift the curtain on the upper deck. Being old school I would like to see the ball get inside a little more since I just can't believe you can shot lights out every night. A couple of wins in Florida would make for a sweet Thanksgiving!!!!!

Not to toot my own horn...but...this is what I've been saying for years now. At the mid major level, the successful teams often times are full of seniors and juniors who have played together. That's just how it works. We are starting to build the program like that.

Agreed WEB. You like to supplement the core of your team with freshmen and sophomores, but at the mid major level, and really for a good portion of the high major teams, you just aren't going to be recruiting the kids that are ready to come in and dominate right away very often.

Re: Penn State at the game

The big difference that I can see is defense and ball movement, vs. the often selfish play we've seen the past couple of years. Sorry, but all I can say is it's about time. Shouldn't take this long to instill a little discipline.

It makes a big difference in a player like Jones. Colter has shown step improvement every year. He looks smarter in the lane. Mason also looks like he's playing smarter, taking shots when they're there. Keep it up. The test will be taking the show on the road.

Dome, I've got your back!! I understand why many would want to play at Palumbo, but I have big dreams, and want to see us become what we were back when JD, and the Nelsons were playing. If we reach that level, we will have to play some games at the Consol if we want to schedule any attractive home games. If we would ever end up in the BE, they would make us play a bunch of games there.

Re: Penn State at the game

When Oscar Jackson came to Duquesne out of the Beaver Valley he was a great recruit, as his career progressed he lost playing time to underclass men and was not the featured guard, the Dukes had a barn burner over at Dayton and it was in overtime, maybe even double or triple, can't remember. OJ made the winning basket and the Dukes went home a winner. Ray Goss interviewed the excited Jackson and OJ kept saying, " I'm a senior Ray, seniors are supposed to make that shot!" Point is Dukes have seniors and Jones is playing like the seasoned vet he is. Remember former point guard BJ Monterio being unstoppable as a Sr forward on the baseline? Keep these kids for four years, no more junco's and the program will be a winner.

Re: Penn State at the game

I agree with Dome on so many things. I have a different opinion on Consol. I think we should try to get a couple Top 20 teams plus some doubleheaders.

Agree with this. Other than Hargrove, and Palmer, what Jucos actually did much here?

ED, we will have to really establish ourselves to be able to attract any Top 25 type of team to come here. Pitt can't get them to come, despite being a solid ACC team. Top 25 teams want you to come to them, with no return game. It's just the way it is today. Everyone wants to play 10 home games ooc. Even the Dukes only play 2 true road games ooc this year, one of which is in Johnstown.

Re: Penn State at the game

Anyone notice that Colter played 36 minutes, Mason 35 minutes and Castro only 2 minutes.  This to me is a little concerning.  Any thoughts?
