Pepperdine

The Waves have only 2 kids 6'8 or taller that have played so far and one of them has only played in one game. Top 3 scorers are all 6'6. They are 1-2 with losses to UCLA and Fresno St. Should be able to give them a game if we can perform like we did tonight.

Re: Pepperdine

This is a good game against a good team. Pepperdine is solid. A win here looks great. A loss isnt the end of the world. This a top 2-3 wcc team and much better than PSU.

Re: Pepperdine

This will be a tough game for sure but it's one we can certainly win. I want to see sustained growth on the defensive end. If we defend competently, we always have a chance to win with the offensive talent on the court

Re: Pepperdine

Dukes are getting into Ft Myers this afternoon and will get some practice time in and time to continue to bond as a team. The Gulf Coast Classic has a field of mid majors that are usually well coached.

I have a lot more confidence after seeing the first three games, seniors playing great and newcomers fitting in plus it's nice to see Lewis improving his game every game.

Re: Pepperdine

Phil, do you know when Pepperdine arrives?  The 2:30 tipoff on Monday will be like 11:30 on the morning to those kids.  Playing a game that early is going to be way out of their daily routine.  That could give the Dukes a little bit of an advantage early in the game.  Hopefully the Dukes can jump out to an early lead and not allow the Waves to get in rhythm.   I hope they don't get in until Sunday night.

Re: Pepperdine

From the UCLA Bruins Nation website, here's the scouting report that they came up with for Pepperdine. An interesting read. http://www.bruinsnation.com/ucla_basketball/2015/11/18/9752832/pepperdine-at-ucla-preview-ucla-has-a-big-advantage

And here's the game story:

Re: Pepperdine

Hopefully Powell will be back. We're much bigger, and need to pound them inside. If we do that, the outside will open up.

Re: Pepperdine

I thought when they announced the new radio deal they said all games would be on WJAS.  This game is only being streamed according to the game notes.

Why have a press release that says all games will be on WJAS when that wasn't true?

http://learfieldsports.com/2015/09/espn-970-am-1320-wjas-and-iheartradio-to-serve-as-official-radio-home-for-duquesne-athletics/

I don't want to make a big deal about this.  Why put out a press release that says all DU mens bb games will be own WJAS when it is not the case?

The reason I'm Complaining is because I can't stream at work and planned to listen to the game on WJAS tomorrow afternoon

Rather than Complain here about I'm
Going to send an email and see if I get a response.

And before people Complain that I'm being overly negative I planned to listen to the game on the radio.  I work for a big company that firewalls everything of a personal nature.  I'm not Complaining just to be contrary.  I want to follow the team and thought I could on radio.

Re: Pepperdine

With all of the discussion surrounding Duquesne and their minute alotment, I took a look at Pepperdine for their 2 non blowouts.

In the UCLA game they had 6 guys playing 27+ and 2 guys getting 9 and 11 min.  In their opener, 4 guys played 31+.

We may have some tight minutes, but they are in a world of trouble. Especially with an early tip for them, if they get in foul trouble they are in huge trouble.

Re: Pepperdine

dukurt:

The press release you posted before the beginning of the season clearly says there would be three (3) sources for radio of the games-- 970, WJAS and i-heart radio. The Athletic website at Duquesne lists i-heart radio as the sole radio source for the three games in Florida and you tube as the live stream.  If I knew who, what or where i-heart radio is or was, I'd tell you, but I don't.  Why not call or e-mail the Athletic Department in the a.m. while on your break and inquire about i-heart and how you get to it. Short of an answer from the school, Google i-heart. That is what I would do.

NEWS FLASH!!! JUST LOOKED AT THE PROMO FOR THE GAME AND IT LISTS 1320 A.M. AND I-HEART AS CARRYING THE GAME ON RADIO TOMORROW.  CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF.

When I read the game notes, it did not say that.   It doesn't have that in the game notes now.

But I hope you are right because I want to listen.  I will see tomorrow.   If it is not, I will ask Mr Derda.

Here is the quote from the press release.  It says WJAS and I Heart Radio.  I Heart Radio is the streaming service that I would use at home.   I know what it is.  I don't have access to it during work hours.   I will have access to an AM radio.

970 was defined as the home for the coaches show in the press release.

"Duquesne football and men’s basketball games will air live on Talk Radio 1320 WJAS and iHeartRadio, the industry leading free digital radio service. While the Football coaches’ shows, Men’s and Women’s Basketball coaches’ shows and the Duquesne Minute daily feature will air on ESPN 970 AM."

I take "and" in that first sentence to mean both.  Both because people outside of signal range can listen to the game without a radio signal.

My only goal here is to be able to listen to the game and support Duquesne.  I hope you are right that it on the radio and I can listen.  If it is I will come on here tommorow and say I was wrong.

If I can listen at work I won't be able to say I'm wrong until I get home around 6.   I will let you know then.

Re: Pepperdine

Sorry but have a problem with people posting he will be out for much longer/he is gone. Sorry have a problem with people acting like they know something when they don't know s. I've been through the good and bad times but I will never slam the program because it is MY team just like every one of you. I think if you want to say how ferry is a pretender and this team will never be anything perhaps research how many teams were successful in three years after a major rebuild with a new coach. Especially after 30 etc years of no success for the program I think we have made major strides. Ferry didn't make every impactful player transfer from this program before he got here. I think he has recruited extremely well and there has been improvement in terms of quality of play each year he has been here. For example why the hell would a player like Ovie, who I knew well would ever end up here? He's doing something right, give the guy an f-ing break. This program was never respected before he got here, and it's apparent he has been building year by year. Who realistically expects to make any postseason tourney with 3 years and basically scraps to work with in terms of recruiting  and returning players based on HOW THIS PROGRAM IS PERCIEVED NOT ONLY NATIONALLY BUT WITHIN THIS CONFERENCE. We have been a joke for so long. We are still seen that way. Look at the A10 board. Someone just referenced the fact that the A10 in generAl is watered down by the presence of DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY. You really think that is ferrys fault. You all claim you have been here for so long, realize that this problem has been apparent and obvious years and years before he got here. I was a student for two years of ever hart and the other two of ferry. We won some games we shouldn't have but also never went anywhere in terms of Ron coaching. Grow some balls and support the guy who has ncaa experience and obviously built one program from nothing, no matter how small. Newsflash we are so tiny and insignificant in the world of college b ball and we never were able to draw the caliber of players we even are now. People Are kidding themselves to say kick ferry out the door when he started from nothing and a program that was rocked by essentially four to five transfers a year, and we have seen that hasn't happened during his tenure. Again tired of the negativity and bs. This team has a lot of promise. Who recruited........dc, Micah, Jeremiah (who everyone can only say good things about now) tysean, Darius, Jordan, Nakye and the rest of the players we have? Him. Shut the f up, realize things are building the right way. It doesn't happen overnight for all you clowns who believe that. One more thing. Duquesne, Jim ferry, or no one else is paying me or telling me to say this its my honest opinion. I hate losing but I can realize when something is improving in the long term. If not God bless, and keep talking smack and criticism about your own team and university. I know I haven't been here or following as long as many of you posters and you remember the good days, but as Springsteen said, "glory days". Move on and support what we are trying to do now. Not who or what we were 30 or 40 years ago, because it's honestly irrelevant at this point. New world new rules. Let's go DUKES!!!

Even though I agree with some of your rant, keep the Fs, and Ss out of your posts. We don't allow that here, even in shortened form.

Re: Pepperdine

I've not read a single post on the board calling for Ferry's head. Not one.

Nor do I agree with anything you said.

Ferry had two good years at LIU. Overall, in 10, he finished one game over .500. Before Ferry, we had Edgar and Née, both of whom had far greater coaching success before they came here, so I'm tired of hearing about this great record of Ferry's.

Let me see him finish over .500 once before we start lecturing people.

Re: Pepperdine

duq81 - in reference to your post - everyone is entitled - but I disagree with your statement that this program was never respected.  I seem to remember a coach named Ron Everhart.  I attended sold out games or almost sold out games at the Palumbo when he was here.  I remember newspaper, radio, and even some national coverage about a team he had when he played 5 guys at a time and platooned them in and out.  This statement is not correct - it was respected.  Also, and this is not meant toward you...we are ecstatic that we beat Penn State, because it represents beating a team that had some ball players.  However, let's HOPE and see how things go and I hope they go well.  One game does not make...
