Re: Pepperdine

Duques102 Jim Ferry will be judged on his own coaching record and coaching performance here at Duquesne.  The references to Ron only serve to aggrivate some posters.  So far Ferry has produced 3 losing seasons, consistent bottom finishes in the A10,  statistically one of the worst defenses in the nation, a mass exodus of season ticket holders, and a almost non existent student section.  Even if you buy the argument that he inherited a bad situation that hindered the progress of his teams, by year 4 with 3 senior starters by any reasonable standard one would expect to see some reversal in this trend.  We took a preseason poll of all the posters here and on the average we all predicted a winning season with 16 wins.  I agree we all need to support the players unconditionally, however, the coaches are paid employees, and just as with any job there are performance standards that need to be met.  The bar for this year has not been set too high in my opinion by the posters on this board.  Will Ferry meet or exceed expectations?  There is a long way to go but so far Ferry is off to a good start this season.

Re: Pepperdine

I'm curious as to how they will use Powell. We really have some decent size, and depth at the 4, and 5 now. I know we're a great 3 point shooting team, but if we can get the inside game going, it will help the outside game become even more deadly.

Re: Pepperdine

Just an opinion.  At first, look for Powell to be used as part of a "go" team with smaller personnel.  In the PSU game Ferry used a smaller lineup of James, Steel, Sanders, Mason and I believe Jones while Colter got a breather to match up against the smaller PSU lineup. He has experimented in practice with Colter, Mason, Jones, James and Powell as a "go" team to maximize speed and shooting on the floor. I can also envision him being used as part of an inside three wide 6'8" speed lineup of Powell, Gill and Sanders with our starting guards.  The theory being, rebound and run, rebound and run.  Again, you wanted opinion.

Nor do I agree with anything you said.

Ferry had two good years at LIU. Overall, in 10, he finished one game over .500. Before Ferry, we had Edgar and Née, both of whom had far greater coaching success before they came here, so I'm tired of hearing about this great record of Ferry's.

Let me see him finish over .500 once before we start lecturing people.

I do remember a poster calling for Ferry to be bought out.

Maybe as a joke, or maybe without understanding that he just got a contract extension. If Duquesne could afford to buy that contract out, it ought to do the right thing and invest more in the program.

Re: Pepperdine

I have found the game on youtube and I'm waiting for it to start.  It presently has a countdown clock running to tell how long until the broadcast begins.

Re: Pepperdine

Tejas Duke, there will be a ZBT reunion at the Robert Morris game on 12/19.  Any chance you'll be in town and able to make it?

Hopefully, Harper can fund raise enough to buy out JF and hire a real coach.

I knew there was one. No posts from this guy when they won.
