Re: Milwaukee

Gonna be a tough game.  Hopefully they got their "bad game" out of the way for this tournament.  Looking at the stats, I think as usual, this is going to go the way of how well the Dukes play defense.  A few folks keep asking about Castro.  From what my lowly self has seen in person, he is not ready to take the floor much.  Hopefully he will get better in practice and will then get more time, but if not, I agree with Ferry keeping him on the bench because he is Not going to help them.

Re: Milwaukee

Pomeroy has the Dukes (#115 in the country) beating Milwaukee (#134) by 1 point, 76-75 - giving the Dukes a 53% chance of winning.

Current betting line has the Dukes favored by 2.

I saw betting lines anywhere between a pickem and Dukes favored by 2. 152.5 o/u

Re: Milwaukee

Great run to end the first half by the dukes after getting down ten. Man, Milwaukee's got some big dudes that all have deep range. It's a really tough matchup for our bigs

Dukes didn't bomb away from 3 either. Shot 66.7% from the floor. Milwakee shooting lots of free throws. Thank goodness they missed a bunch.

Milwaukee is closing out hard, usually with a double team, on mason. I though he did a nice job of driving the ball and dishing it

Re: Milwaukee

I AGREE!  This did so much for fortitude, confidence, and mental toughness.  Now, they need to win the next game to start establishing a positive pattern after a tough game like this.  Nice job coach and players.

Re: Milwaukee

What an awesome ending to that game.  When we were down 4 with Colter fouled out, I assumed we were finished.  James came up big, and Jones had a sweet pass to a wide open Gill.

Re: Milwaukee

Wow!  Nice finish, Keep your head in the game and keep fighting.  I half expected the usual DU fold at the end but no. Maybe there is something special here this year!

Re: Milwaukee

Give some credit to Milwaukee as well. Those two bigs can really stretch the floor. Springs was decent too. They are going to be a tough out in the horizon. I think they were picked third preseason

Re: Milwaukee

This is a big win. Keeps alive the possibility for 9 wins ooc. Win tomorrow, and that jumps to 10 wins.

Re: Milwaukee

IMHO, this is what happens when you have experience. You can win a close game v. a good team. Good to see EJ emerge. Sanders continues to progress. Lewis put a charge in to the team in the 2nd half.

Need to get Powell going. Potential is inside of him.

Re: Milwaukee

I think this was the best game Lewis played thus far.

Re: Milwaukee

Observations:

Gill took all 7 of his shots from 3 point land. Not crazy about that, but he hit 3, which is a good percentage, and he put in work on the defensive boards. Lewis was perfect from the floor. Not many rebounds though.
The dynamic duo was back on their game today. We'll go as far as they take us.
Dukes shot nearly 65% from the floor, and 55% from 3.
We outrebounded a bigger team.
We weren't great against the 3, but it wasn't horrible.
A ton of fouls again. We have some depth, but we have to cut that down. They shot 37 free throws, and made 27, which is why the game was close.

Re: Milwaukee

Great team effort to find a way to win.  I like the way James has decided to take it strong to the glass this year.  The Dukes need to do a better job of playing defense without fouling, and getting offensive rebounds.

My only complaint about coaching today was when Milwaukee went on their run to get back in it in the second half. Lewis just could not close out fast enough on tiby. IMO this would have been a good time to play James at the 4 and have him guard tiby at the perimeter since tiby doesn't really post up down low.

Also, take it for what it's worth, but one of the Milwaukee coaches said in the post game yesterday that, with all due respect to murray state, he thought Duquesne and Pepperdine where the two best teams in the field.
