Offline 40 points in the paint. Offline From Germaine Arena, Estero, Fl : Offline Observations: Great game, but every time we shoot a 3, no chance to make them foul, but every time they penetrate instead of a 3 we have a need to defend and maybe foul. Last game Ferry said they went to the line 30-plus to our approx.18. this is the difference of choosing to launch 30-plus 3's, instead of penetrating for 2 plus the potential fouls when needed. Again, GREAT WIN, but need to penetrate more and dominate the inside game some. We can hit 3's only went their defense is weak on the perimeter, but need to commit to penetrating if this season is the turn-a-round for Ferry. So, let's hope the coaches get it. Go-Dukes !! Offline The Dukes will play Western Kentucky tomorrow @ 2:30 as WKU beat C. Michigan 88-60 Offline I will be the first to admit that I love WKU's mascot. The Big Red cracks me up. Such a random blob. Shooting 3s is a strength of this team. I have no problem with them taking it to the hoop, but 40% from 3 equals 60% from 2. We should always look for the shot inside of 5-6 feet, but 15 footers are not a good shot for a team that shoots so well from the 3. This should be an inside out team, one that shoots lot's of bunnies, and lot's of 3s. It's funny, the 15 footer used to be considered a great shot, but it's a bad shot for a team built like Duquesne. Offline The Dukes will play Western Kentucky tomorrow @ 2:30 as WKU beat C. Michigan 88-60 You old guys might remember that back in the mid 70's when Duquesne still ranked in the top 5 for all time winning percentage, that WKU was also in the top 5. Offline Jim McDaniels was one of my favorite players as a kid. Offline Anyone watch or know anything about wku? I saw that they were picked 6th in a decent 14-team conference USA Offline Anyone watch or know anything about wku? I saw that they were picked 6th in a decent 14-team conference USA No one on their all conference team. Offline Yeah after snooping around google for a little bit this doesn't look like a bad team at all. They look pretty big with two 7 footers and some built guys up front. Michigan 88-60 You old guys might remember that back in the mid 70's when Duquesne still ranked in the top 5 for all time winning percentage, that WKU was also in the top 5. There were a couple of battles between the Dukes and the Hilltoppers in 1969 and 1970, when both programs were nationally ranked. WKU was led by All-American Jim McDaniels. In 1969, the Dukes won easily at home, but in 1970, they got a little home cooking in Bowling Green, KY and lost (Jim McDaniels never lost a home game in his career). That 70-71 Hilltopper team went to the Final Four, and the Dukes participated in the 32 team NCAA field, losing to Penn in the opening round. Offline Looking at those box scores not a lot of players got minutes. Virginia and W. Kentucky both used only six players. Offline I like how they have pictures and interviews of the games... Hopefully the dukes can win tomorrow.. Little surprised CMU got blasted by 20+ when they had the best ranking entering the tournament. Offline Nice, gutsy win by the Dukes. We have seen them find ways to lose this exact type of game in the past. They showed a lot of toughness and guts down the stretch. Nice to see the continued development of Darius Lewis and a very well rounded performance from Eric James. Offline Some stat lines: UWM was a bigger team than the Dukes and yet scored a pitiful 18 points in the paint to 40 for the Dukes. 14 fast break points for the Dukes to 3 for them. It was 6'8" and 6'9" forwards who fired 3 pointers all day long because they couldn't score inside. Too many chicken s--- fouls led to 27 of their points. 29 Dukes fouls to 19 for them. They fired 31 threes to our 18. Jordan Johnson got credit for 13 assists because he was able to get the ball to the wings for outside buckets that included 3 pointers. Finally, the Dukes out-rebounded a taller team. It's a win that resulted from total team effort. I'll take this kind of win any day regardless of perceived "cycles". Offline Missed the last 7 minutes and the OT with a pet-to-the-vet thing. Glad to see the outcome. One problem: 2 offensive rebounds in the whole game? One a team rebound. The front-court players are stepping up, but not so much on the offensive glass. Offline Missed the last 7 minutes and the OT with a pet-to-the-vet thing. Glad to see the outcome. One problem: 2 offensive rebounds in the whole game? One a team rebound. The front-court players are stepping up, but not so much on the offensive glass. Well, we shot 67% from the field. There weren't a lot of offensive rebounds to be had. That seems like a little nit-picking going on. We outrebounded a bigger team and probably would have won by 15+ without the ticky-tack fouls. Have to shore that up. Offline 18 Wins....Over/Under. I'm going with over! Offline Missed the last 7 minutes and the OT with a pet-to-the-vet thing. Glad to see the outcome. Re: Milwaukee
Dukes played hard all three periods, DC shot just kept moving around the rim and fell out, we were crushed. So many with 4 fouls but Dukes kept playing hard d and James came up with the Steal and hit the second shot to seal it a 4. Milwaukee lost to Murry in the first Round when they missed a hit a trying 3 but was waved off since game clock expired and I knew they would be tough, but Dukes quickness was evident . Spirits high, great group of parents and fans on Duquesne side. they put us across from the bench instead of behind bench.
2:30 pm game tomorrow then team fly's to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving.

Gill took all 7 of his shots from 3 point land. Not crazy about that, but he hit 3, which is a good percentage, and he put in work on the defensive boards. Lewis was perfect from the floor. Not many rebounds though.
The dynamic duo was back on their game today. We'll go as far as they take us.
Dukes shot nearly 65% from the floor, and 55% from 3.
We outrebounded a bigger team.
We weren't great against the 3, but it wasn't horrible.
A ton of fouls again. We have some depth, but we have to cut that down. They shot 37 free throws, and made 27, which is why the game was close.

Now again, the elephant in the room - defense. We gave up 84 points to a team in regulation that scored 63 points yesterday; a team that scored more than 80 points only twice last season. This must improve, or the Dukes will be back in that bad cycle - win when you shoot well and lose when you don't.

Re: Milwaukee
Against the man-to-man D, the drives by Mason, James, Jones etc. are a key going forward. Mason has a great sense of when to go to the hole, and how to find the player to assist when the shot isn't there. James and Powell are two guys who finish inside. Lewis is coming on, and just needs to be more aware that a pass may be coming.
