Re: Western Kentucky

Well posters here's the recap from Germain Arena, Estero, Fl
I am not one who believes in complaining about refs but,..... There were so many missed three seconds on WKU, at one point in the second half three WKU were in the lane at once and we got possession only because we stole it to cause a turn over.
All three games Dukes played hard, DC was unbelievable. After the game was over the team ran into the locker room passed our contingent of about 100 friends and family cheering wildly with smiles on their faces. It will be a good flight back to Pittsburgh this evening for the Dukes.

5-1 after a Almost 5 day road trip, hope for a good year. Got to meet Coach Ferry and his top assistant Brian but most meaningful  was my time with Coach John Rhodes. He is such a friendly fellow, I told him of so many followers pulling for him and he was all smiles, I even got some of his famous hugs!

All told it was an enjoyable three days for an old Dukes Fan, I wish I was able to go down to Palumbo for the games, when you are there think of me. Wil be watching and listening to Ray.

Re: Western Kentucky

Well, I said we needed to split the tough 4 game stretch of this tourney, ans Penn State, in order to have a real shot at the 18 win season I predicted. We went one better. We can afford one stumble now, and still make our goal. Better than that, if we don't stumble, we might surpass our predictions. 10-3 ooc is now within our reach if we win the games we're supposed to. Do that, and even a disappointing 7-11 in A10 play gives you 17 wins. Go 9-9, and the NIT becomes a possibility. The A10 is having a fantastic ooc season so far. If it continues, it will mean that league teams will be in play for both the NCAAs, and NIT, with lesser records than it normally takes.

Re: Western Kentucky

Pildog, thanks for the 1st class reporting.  Only 15 more wins needed to get to 20!

Re: Western Kentucky

Which ever one of you were screaming the whole game, you're my hero.

Defiantly loved the tournament, I think it really helped our team grow, lets do it again next year.

All players seem to be playing very well, lets continue it against our real competition.

Pretty sure the guy screaming the whole game was Michael Vozza.  Ray and Jarrett even mentioned him a few times on the radio broadcast.

Re: Western Kentucky

Nice tournament play by the Dukes. The starters did lots of minutes in game 3, and still played very well. The deep bench is a great plus though. This team might surprise the A-10. Even though the league appears strong, based on ooc play so far, this a team with talent and hustle and a desire to win. Several players have made significant steps forward, including Jeremiah.

It got scary toward the end today, but our guys are 5-1, and there is high potential for a really nice season

Re: Western Kentucky

Dear Apple,

I spoke with Jones after yesterday's game, he told me he would come on strong tomorrow, and he did.
What we are seeing is the value of a four year starter in his Sr year, playing like a seasoned, wise veteran. Having 3 6-8 kids on the bench to give us big 4's helps with the pressure and with James spelling him at the 3 he gets a blow more often.

These kids kept their legs all of the third game.

Re: Western Kentucky

I don't want to high jack this thread or start another or bump up one.  But a certain person signed to an NBA team is off to an 0-16 start.  And will be at least 0-19.

Just saying.  If they are tanking the season is their goal, signing him may have been a good move.

Now back to the WKU talk.

Re: Western Kentucky

Despite horrible officiating in all three games, the Dukes were nevertheless able to post two impressive wins here in Florida.

Winless Mississippi Valley State (0-5) — our next opponent — played BYU to the wire earlier tonight at the Marriott Center in Provo.  Believe it or not, the Delta Devils actually had a chance to pull off an upset in the final two minutes of that game, so we shouldn't take them too lightly.  Keep an eye on Damion Young.  He was 8-11 tonight, including 5 of 7 from beyond the arc.  He could be dangerous...

Though they've lost really badly in several contests — losing by 46 at Nebraska, by 39 at New Mexico State and by a 94-60 margin against undefeated Grand Canyon this past Monday — they seemed to put it together against the BYU Cougars earlier this evening.

MVSU, incidentally, will play Robert Morris in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Saturday and then Tennessee Tech on Sunday as part of the Air Force Classic before traveling to Pittsburgh to face the Dukes on Tuesday.  Incredibly, they've been on the road since their opener against Nebraska on November 14th, and won't play their first home game of the season until January 4th.  Talk about a brutal schedule.

DESTROY THE DEVILS!  GO DUKES!

That's right Phil, I said this is a well-conditioned group of players, and they hustled every second, worked hard underneath, and shared the ball on offense. Things look pretty good right now.

that was def him. after sitting near him for many years, the voice is etched in my brain. he is def a super fan.
he works the refs harder than coach k or old roy.
I've heard him say some great things to the refs over the years. I've also heard the refs say some great things back! he almost got thrown out of a game a few years ago…classic stuff...
gotta love the guy. anyone with that much passion for the dukes is top shelf in my book.
