We won but very easily could have lost. One point game with 90 seconds left. Thank goodness Colter made his FTs. Too many stupid turnovers and missed layups. But hey it's a "W". 4-27 on treys and won by 7. Maybe when you are shooting 4-for-27 from 3-point range, YOU SHOULD TRY SOMETHING ELSE! Tell Mason to stop shooting. Horrible idea. Maybe when you are shooting 4-for-27 from 3-point range, YOU SHOULD TRY SOMETHING ELSE! Tell Mason to stop shooting. Horrible idea. Not stop shooting. Try different shots. Drive to the basket. Our guards can drive to the basket, right? If Mason is a 3-pointer shooter and nothing else, he should not be in the starting lineup. Mason, like Coulter, can and often does take the ball to the hole and score or ring up assists. Maybe Mason doesn't belong in the lineup? Ludicrous. We won but very easily could have lost. One point game with 90 seconds left. Thank goodness Colter made his FTs. Too many stupid turnovers and missed layups. But hey it's a "W". 4-27 on treys and won by 7. There is no question that this was an ugly game. Still, I would rather win ugly than lose ugly as we did last year. Got to hope Jones is OK. He was on crutches. I'd say rest him v. GT and pray we are 100% for UD. Mason, like Coulter, can and often does take the ball to the hole and score or ring up assists. Maybe Mason doesn't belong in the lineup? Ludicrous. Not Masons fault. We didn't have the inside players the last 3 years, so it's been on his back to shoot the 3-s early in the games, still we lost most of them, The coaches need to set up, early,( like most of this game) to go inside and fight for points, then Micah and Colter can get open looks later in the game for 3's. Ferry didn't impress me until this game. I thought he was not it, making excuses to cover that he didn't have a clue. But, only, if Ferry directs the game inside from the perimeter and has James swing it in and or out or feed to Lewis (back door) or the wide open 3 that he creates when the shot isn't there is this team going to have a chance in A-10 ball. If he does, it's a win-win. If not, then find another coach. grammudder, you can not copy articles from a pay site, or any site for that matter, and post it here. We're actually a game ahead of my projection right now, so losing all 4 won't kill us, provided we take care of business against the other teams. That said, it would say a lot to be able to snag one of these games. Dayton at home, or maybe GT will overlook us, and get caught off guard. Beating Dayton at home would be our best shot I believe...They play Arkansas three days before our game. Hopefully they will get a pummeling from the razorbacks... The next 4 games are brutal. On winning teams ( like Pitt) big games are won Ugly inside by big guys set-up and fed by point guards, not by hot shooting guards from 3-point range from the tip-off, but by dribble drive, penetration and dishing, give and go or back-door to the bigs, then hit the 3's when they croud the center, which opens the 3's. Don't expect to win with bombing the3's all game. It's never worked in the past? So don't expect Micah and Coulter to win them now bombing 3's? Get smart and win. Why would you want to diminish a possible Dukes victory? I want Dayton to be ranked, and flying high when they come in here. Hell, we might even get a crowd if they're ranked. Poorly played game by the Dukes today. But RMU is horrible right now so we still won. As Tejas pointed out, that's what good teams do. We're not good yet, but this win was another small step in the right direction. Mason, like Coulter, can and often does take the ball to the hole and score or ring up assists. Napa duke, I don't know how many games you watched in past seasons, but colter and mason for the most part were the only reason we stayed in games in the past. We lost because of an overall lack of talent and depth, something we have now. Your suggestion that James and Lewis should play more is also off base. The are both hot and cold, this may be due to the fact that Lewis is a progressing project still and James is young and has potential but still can be quiet in certain games (saint Francis). These are guys you ride when they are hot but can't rely on night in and night out yet. We are a three point shooting team, like it or not. If that's not working, I agree we should take other looks but we can't change the offense all together because of the personnel we have. We're off to the best start in who knows how long and you think things aren't working??? You have to rely on your best guys who happen to be senior guys who can shoot. They are going to have off nights here and there. The fact that they were off yesterday and we still won is a testament to this team as a whole and the coaching. You or I have no idea what will happen in the A-10 so let's wait till we get there. Also nice spelling on losing. grammudder, you can not copy articles from a pay site, or any site for that matter, and post it here. You or I have no idea what will happen in the A-10 so let's wait till we get there. Also nice spelling on losing. I agree with you, we are a 3 shooting team, but a 2-10 team can shut down the 3's.so easily what do you expect A-10 teams to do? It took a team effort to win this game against RM. No team in the A-10 is going to let those 2 launch uncontested 3's all game long? RM didn't. Also those 2 seniors are getting 39 minutes a game and are GONE next year? Then what? Want to win some in the A-10? Better start believing on the young guys and the interior game. Strangely, it's what Ferry has over recruited these past 3 years? They are stacked with interior players, better start using those 2 guards to start setting up the interior game instead of setting them-self's up to launch 3's that are not going to be wide open. And about James being cold, he didn't get this kind of time till Jones (another senior) got injured. So hard to say he is hot or cold? Oh, about watching this team play, unfortunately, I have. I don't think two senior guards playing 39 minutes are the future of this team. I appreciate their efforts, they have done a great job, but they played 3 years without the interior muscle we have now, but we do have it now, so they should adjust and win. Still, I'm impressed they are 10-2, but in reality, we have not beat anyone yet. I'm hoping this OOC schedule has given the young players some time to get into the flow, but the A-10 is pretty tough this year. Still, like you, I'm hoping they turn the corner. ( Hey, I'm glad I amused you with my spelling on Losing, LOL) Go Dukes ! Last edited by NapaDuke (12/21/2015 12:03 am) I agree A-10 teams will look to shut down the three, but any team we played that watched any tape on us would do the same. It's pretty easy to see that's our first look. However, we have one of the best three point shooting guards EVER and a point guard who can get hot from behind the line as well as slash to the basket. Just because a team defends your strongest competitive advantage doesn't mean you go away from it. And yes I also agree there may be some drop off next year when these guys leave but who gives a s*** about next year until next year. No one would have predicted Eric James to step up and progress the way he has based on how he played last year, he barely played and when he did he looked super average. At the mid major level, any guy has the potential to step up or drop off dramatically (James, Castro) year to year, so I don't concern myself with next year at the beginning of this season. Also, your point about not beating anyone good is true but also not really relevant at this point. We have played these level teams the last few years and found ways to lose, where now we have found ways to win. A win is a win Napa, no matter by how many points or who we play, we all know thAt. Our next opponent, g tech, who is undoubtedly better on paper than us, lost to a team we would beat probably 7 out of 10 times in it Chattanooga. So strength of opponent is not what matters to me. I just want to keep racking up wins. The inside guys will get looks in the A-10 trial by fire style. That's the way I want it. Playing against better competition is what makes you improve. When this offense is flowing you see the guards and interior guys getting looks. There's no need to force any offensive agenda, but rather play according to the defensive looks we get in any individual game. This team had shown testicular fortitude it has been lacking in the past and that's what I wanted to see most I agree A-10 teams will look to shut down the three, but any team we played that watched any tape on us would do the same. Jim ferry has absolutely added depth to this program. Raise your hand if you thought we would shoot 4-27 on treys and still win a game this year. Didn't think so.

If we beat GT, the UD game is bigger than the X game at Consol several years back.

Good teams also pull off upsets on the road so let's do that next game. Besides, Micah's due to go 8 of 10 from 3 so that will help.

Sure, establish the inside game early, but one bad 3-point game by this team is not a reason to dismiss the fact that you have some great shooters, and you have to go back to them. They had open looks, but missed them. Bad game, still a win. A hot shooting game and this team could beat just about anybody.
This team strips the ball, gets into passing lanes, and dives on loose balls, and these are real athletes on this squad. There are promising indicators for a solid A-10 performance.
