Offline It's nice to be missed, excuse me while I wipe a tear from my eye that seems to be caused from this beautiful moment, OK its gone. My writings in the past was to open the eyes of those who did not know the intimate details of what was going on in the Athletic department. Some chose to accept my words as true others undecided and others lashing out against the facts that I brought, either way is the right of those to speak freely. Last edited by Scotchngars (1/25/2016 12:15 pm) Offline Well, glad to see you're alive and well. Sometimes when regulars stop posting, it's for other, unfortunate reasons. I hope Ironduke is willing to give the new guys a chance. The folks 2 miles up Forbes Ave. had similar problems, and seem to be very happy with their new leadership. Let's hope that can happen here. Offline The way I remember the Spiritan Fathers teaching theology to (maybe preaching to) me was that in all things that matter Reconciliation is a two-way street. No one is bigger than the Spirit that gives life. "Spiritus est qui vivificat." Last edited by grammudder (1/25/2016 6:29 pm) Offline I think it is best that Amodio has moved on from Duquesne but it is interesting that almost all of the school athletic programs (football, women's basketball, women's soccer, etc.) are doing relatively well. Offline Well said, but many who gave were treated the same by both Amodio and Daugherty. Harper and Gormley need to be aware of those who got flicked off their coats, to make an attempt to heal the wounds. Offline Scotch: Free advice from someone who charged for advice as a living. Call Dave Harper. Arrange to have a sit down with him and have a little "Come to Jesus talk" with him. Someone has to make a first move and he doesn't know you or where you are at. He, on the other hand, is easy to find. He doesn't bite, won't look at your pockets to see how much $$$ he can extract and I guarantee he'll leave your lint alone!! He is a different breed altogether. Do it now. You'll have to wait til Gormley is in office. He has other first priority duties to attend to in the Law School. Athletics can wait for him. Ken Gormley has a long, long way to go to impress me. I firmly believe Gormley was not the correct hire. Offline Scotch: Free advice from someone who charged for advice as a living. Call Dave Harper. Great advice! Hope Ironduke does the same. Offline Harper is a down to earth kind of guy, treated me well in Estero, Fl Offline Its a tough call grammudder w/o the wronged who don't want contacted. As I have said in the past I wish I didn't know what I know and out of the respect for the privacy of others don't think I can force the hand. Offline Ironduke and I have been friends for years. I agree with Scotchngars on this. When Ironduke feels the time is right I am sure he will return. He doesn't need prodding from anyone. I look forward to the next time I see him at a game. I look forward to the next time I see him at a game. Maybe he's sitting out until Dougherty is out the door. Well, I hope he's still able to enjoy this season from a distance. We have a good bunch of guys on the team who are doing the Duquesne name proud. Offline A suggestion for Mr. Harper. Why not make the first move. There are numerous former season ticket holders who have walked away over the last 4 years and feel disenfranchised for various reasons. I think that a little personal contact by Mr. Harper might bring some back. It should be easy for him to find out who they are. He may be reaching out to these folks already. I don't know. If not he should. Last edited by CLK (1/28/2016 7:19 pm) Offline A suggestion for Mr. Harper. Why not make the first move. Make it easier for Harper to do this. Offline duq81, are you kidding, he does not have be a sleuth? Of course he and his staff know who the former season ticket holders are. He just needs to expend the effort to reach out to them. Like I said, he may already be doing that, I don't know. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to look at the empty seats in the Palumbo and figure out you have a problem. Reaching out to former season ticket holders should be at the top of his agenda. Offline Reaching out to former season ticket holders should be at the top of his agenda. Followed immediately by reaching out to current season ticket holders, donors, etc. Offline A good sign: This is an interesting conversation. I am an ex season ticket holder. I still go to some men's games. When I gave up my tix after RE was fired, no one called to ask why. Offline This is an interesting conversation. I am an ex season ticket holder. I still go to some men's games. When I gave up my tix after RE was fired, no one called to ask why. I pretty much agree, but I worry about some of the holdovers being part of the problem. Sure, the AD could call people who were major players in the past, but he can't call 500 people and spend half an hour on the phone with each one. Conversely, you don't want some of the people who are part of the problem making the calls either. Sounds like a conundrum to me. Offline This is an interesting conversation. Conversely, you don't want some of the people who are part of the problem making the calls either. Sounds like a conundrum to me. Wow. To be completely serious, this sounds like a position I could fill incredibly well. As a two year Alumni, I was a student during these specific times of turmoil and change associated with the program. Also, as a former athlete I had a much closer pulse of the team than most, for example, I was the person to break on the other board that Kadeem would be leaving the basketball program and would stay and be a part of the soccer program before any news had come out suggesting that. I also still currently live in the Southside and have very low fixed expenses so salary requirements would not be very high. I very recently took a solid position at an investment firm in the area, but with my passion and love for the Universities Athletic Department, especially the basketball program, I would strongly consider a position in the area of Alumni Relations/Fundraising/General Program Liaison and would put my heart and soul into such a position. If any of you guys have any contacts within the Athletic Department or could put me in touch with someone who would take a look at my resume, please let me know! Offline Harper is a big boy, I am not going to presume to tell him how to do his job. But IMHO the new AD has no bigger responsibilities than to restore the fractured fan base, and increase revenue and donations. This requires personal contact. He may not be able to call all the former season ticket holders, but he can send them personal letters encouraging them to return, soliciting comments, providing his e-mail address and phone number. This in my opinion would be more of a personal welcoming response than getting a cold call from some no name (no disrespect Dukes102). He should also reach out to the existing season ticket holders in similar fashion.
The Call Out!
If you recall I did not say a word on this board once what I felt was one of the problems went away "Amodio". Same will be when what I feel is the second problem "Daugherty" goes away. I wish both success in their futures.
The reason I don't post about the current state of the program is mostly due to I don't want people to think I am not a fan of coach ferry. He had to play the job preservation ooc schedule that Amodio created and sorry can't be excited by the success he has had in regards to who we have played ooc. In conference is better than last three years and am glad to see us winning what we have. Bonnies defeat was great just like the women's was. My hope is that Harper,Gormley and Ferry can change things around.
Clk is correct about Ironduke he gave all to be brushed off as a piece of lint on Amodio's and Daugherty's black suit jacket.

I don't know Ironduke but if he "gave all" without wanting anything in return then it is a travesty that he would have been rebuked by anyone at Duquesne. Duquense should welcome all well-meaning supporters so hopefully Ironduke will give Duquesne his/her support again at some point.

I called his assistant and asked her to pass on my idea about the Iowa kids all getting some Duquesne stuff. I even said, I realize he is too busy to talk to me and I don't expect him too. Our little chat somehow came around to who I was, my pledge to DU and a few other things. She asked me to send her a copy of my letter from three years ago, which I did. Later that day I got a personal phone call from Harper himself, (my phone was off due to being at school) and he left a long and detailed message.

Re: The Call Out!
Then about a year ago I got a call from some student asking me about it (GA was still there). When I started to express my frustrations with the program, I could tell he didn't know what I was talking about. Nor could he care. He just wants to get off the phone at that point.
I don't think it is Harper's role to call people on the phone and beg them to come back. But the people that do call, should not be students who are doing on a work study part time job.
There should be a happy medium. Someone that knows the recent history of the athletic department and is employed full time by the athletic department.

Re: The Call Out!
I have a friend who is close to the Pitt program who told me their new AD hit the ground running 24/7 trying to mend fences with their boosters.
Please note, I am not trying to be critical of the AD because quite frankly I have no idea what he is doing in this regard. I just disagree that the job of reaching out to the long suffering loyal fans, who for whatever reason have walked away, or have developed negative feelings about DU, or feel like like their opinions don't matter, should handed off and handled (or not handled) like it has in the past.
