Sports Minute on CBS-John Feinstein

Listen to the one minute audio from John Feinstein on this web site.  Commentary was dated January 26, 2016.  I heard it at 12:20 p.m. on 93.7 the fan. You couldn't pay enough for this kind of free p.r.    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/audio/cbs-sports-minute/

Re: Sports Minute on CBS-John Feinstein

I'm beginning to wonder if this might end up being the sort of magical season that could send us back into the upper echelons of college basketball? If we could make it to the A10 finals, you know the national press will jump on the story and ride it. Imagine if we won, and got to the tournament, It would be all over the tv. Ferry wouldn't have to explain to recruits what Duquesne was, they'd already know. After 44 years in the wilderness, isn't it time for some good things to break our way?

Spike Lee has been coming to the A10 tournament, since he's a big booster of things that happen in his native Brooklyn. Can someone see to it that he gets a Sihugo Green jersey, and if he doesn't know about Sihugo, educate him about a Brooklyn legend? Spike Lee cheering on the Dukes in a Sihugo Green jersey would be priceless, especially if we went on a run. We might end up replacing Gonzaga, and Wichita St. as America's favorite underdog.

Wow I thought I was one of the more optimistic members of this board! But I do like what your saying, I think that is the end goal, it will just take more than one good season.

If you look at all the teams we have lost to the only one that I am truly upset about is Pepperdine and even that could be contributed to playing in the golf classic and only being our 4th game of the season. Besides that I don't have a problem with any of our other loses (THIS SEASON). Yes I would have liked the dukes to steal one of those but I can't complain to much for losing to who we did.

I think what will truly make me a believe is how we finish out the year. I think this team knows the teams it should and shouldn't beat. Thats good for confidence against underdogs but bad when it comes to being one.

Re: Sports Minute on CBS-John Feinstein

You know in the back of my mind, I have had this sneaking little hunch, idea, notion, what have you that things were aligning for the Dukes for a magical year. I almost dared not hope or voice it. You know the reasons: karma, jinx, "counting your chickens," just plain old Duquesne Bad Luck Schleprock kismet  what have you, but since others seem to be thinking along those lines I will say it.  (Throwing salt over the shoulder, avoiding black cats, not walking under ladders, do you hear me basketball gods, not making a prediction but just a "what if."

Can you just imagine all the wonderful human interest stories and angles for the Dukes to finally make it to the dance?  Forty years in the wilderness. I can just hear Dick Vitale on Selection Sunday singing our praises, gushing with joy over our return (I know some board members have some "hard on" for Vitale from forty years ago, but I don't care. He is the most dynamic media voice in college hoops, bar none).  Can you just see that live report on Selection Sunday as the Dukes anxiously watch to see their number called?

Two cancer survivors, Micah Mason and his three point accuracy and finally the bus incident.  These stories will write themselves as we prepare for our Thursday or Friday game in the Big Dance.

Not gonna think about it. Just heeding the advice of Bull Durham. "When you're on a streak, you gotta respect the streak."

Let's Go Dukes!

Hear Hear. They have already doubled their win total that they had on February 11 last year!  Enjoying the ride.

I just wish all the negative posters would come out and share in the fun of a successful season so far! No one is going to say told you so in terms of predicting a solid outcome or criticize them for past posts. This board is the most fun to partake in when you get a large vast array of opinions and certainly there's are valued and missed!

How do you define success? The Dukes have been great at home in terms of W/L, but the reality is what is our best win? Bonnies? Or does it even matter? If we care, KenPom had our OOC schedule at 320 with an overall SOS of 232. There are 351 teams in D1 hoops. Over the past 4 seasons, I would do backflips at the AJP for a 14-7 season to date. I just think there needs to be a quick pump of the brakes recognizing that our recent wins are against lower level conference opponents. A big opportunity on the road for the Dukes this Saturday. A road win at SLU would give the team and fanbase confidence going into February and day dream about the opportunities in March.

Re: Sports Minute on CBS-John Feinstein

It's really nice for the seniors and our long-suffering fans to see this team's success.  They could easily have folded when Jeremiah went down,  then Micah hurt his ankle, leading to an 0-3 start in the A-10. They have fought back, and have shown the ability to grind out victories even when they don't shoot the ball particularly well.  This is the ability that defines good teams from average or weak teams, being able to win those grind-out games.

Sung by the Temptations, the very best of Motown's vocal groups!

I did notice the misspelling but was so overwhelmed with the attention the Dukes were receiving, pointing out the misspelling became less of an issue.

If you didn't know how to spell it and were taking a guess that would be a pretty bad guess. I could understand Dookane.

I might debate that. The Supremes were more successful, and I'd take Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops over David Ruffin, good as he was.

One of my Favorite Oscar moments was Levi Stubbs singing the nominated "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space" from "Little Shop of Horrors"

This team can beat anyone down the stretch if they continue to build from the inside out. Lewis, Powell, James, Gill are becoming pretty good players and putting up  better numbers  with every game. IF they are going to surprise anyone down the stretch, it's coming from these guys and assist from the guards.  I was very skeptical coming into this season, but at this point, this looks like the Dukes team that made the surprise run to the A-10 final and a NIT bid.  They are winning the games they were predicted to, and (just maybe) they start taking it to a couple of teams they weren't favored too. (That's not a stretch at this point)

No offense CLK, and you show good taste in liking and preferring the Temptations, but I'll take, as Jerry Butler calls them "The Sweethearts of Doo Wop" the Chantels with or without Arlene Smith. No song better than "He's Gone."

The Chantels were not a Motown group. The OP specifically mentioned Motown. Motown hadn't even been founded when the Chantels came out.

Re: Sports Minute on CBS-John Feinstein

Grammy, I selected "Imagination" because it fit the narrative of the post.  If I were going with the moldy oldies I would say that "Maybe" by the Chantels would fit.  My buddy godukes1970 grew up in the same town and listening to Bob Livorio (WKPA) and this guy (this link only for Pittsburgh alum who graduated before 1979).
