If they can pull off this road win, 20 wins is within reach.

Re: Dukes Open as 1.5pt favorite over SLU

In the Dukes pregame notes -  "In six career games vs. Saint Louis, DU senior guard Micah Mason is averaging 17.2 ppg. on .586 shooting ... Mason is 21-of-37 from 3-point against the Billikens."

Re: Dukes Open as 1.5pt favorite over SLU

Was looking like a blow-out early on, but Duke worked back and lead at the half.   Clearly, the Dukes can dominate the interior as this second half begins. Typically, they are covering Micah real close. Derrick just isn't getting the plays set up well yet. Hope those two get some room to work in the second half.

Some don't want to hear or believe this but the interior is a strength on this team.

No WEB people know that it's the coaches that don't know how to utilize it or use personnel to accentuate it.

Nice second half by DC. Play of the game was those back-to-back blocks by gill. Solid road win over a team that plays well at home

Yes, but some on the board will be miserable.

This team can put up some upsets down the stretch and do so damage in the A-10 tourney.  And I started this season a real skeptic. But not after seeing these young big guys grow.  This season, with each game, is becoming very interesting.  Go Dukes !!

Re: Dukes Open as 1.5pt favorite over SLU

15-7. We have seldom been 8 games over .500 since the last of the glory years, in 1972. If we can somehow win the next 2, or 3 of the next 4, we would be 10 games over .500. This has happened only twice since 1972. 1981 under Mike Rice, we reached a high point of 12 games over .500, going into the E8 Championship against Pitt. This is the high water mark since the glory years. We also reached 11 games over .500 under Ron Everhart in 2011. This was during the 11 game winning streak. We were 5-5 when it started, and of course were 11 games over .500 after the last game of the streak. Shows you just how bad we've been for most of the last 44 seasons.

Ron Everhart reached 8 games over .500 during 3 of his 6 seasons, and Mike Rice 2 of his 4. Jim Ferry is the third to reach this "milestone".

Re: Dukes Open as 1.5pt favorite over SLU

Something worth noting is that the Dukes won a road game with gill held scoreless. Not a knock on LG, as he rebounded well and came up with two huge blocks, but great job by Jackson picking up the scoring load

Definitively, Jackson play was a big. That's how good teams win. Someone is off, someone steps up.  Lewis played big D inside too. Considering the slow start, this team really out-played SL the rest of the game.

Jackson was highly rated as a recruit. Those who saw him in practice last year, felt that he was raw, and would take a while to develop. He's taken a nice step forward the second half of the year, and should be a big piece of the puzzle going forward.

Re: Dukes Open as 1.5pt favorite over SLU

I'm happy with the win today and where we're sitting right now.  The team seems to be making steady improvement as the season goes on.  If this trend continues this will be a very good season.

Re: Dukes Open as 1.5pt favorite over SLU

Ok, someone needs to fill me in here on something. I am typing this from the hotel computer in the French Quarter, here for my wife's milestone birthday and having a blast, was following the last 1:30 on the ESPN  game tracker, before we head out to the parade, so I got a very limited description of the action.

Dukes are up by about 8 with 1:25 left to play. How the hell do they commit not one but two fouls when it's the other team that is supposed to be fouling?  Someone please tell me how the hell they managed to let St. Louis hang around and give them free throws.

Well one of the fouls was a complete acting job by the St. Louis kid. Complete flop.  We're talking European soccer-type flop. It dropped ferry to his knees. The other foul was on a drive to the hoop.

People were complaining why we let teams roll the ball up the floor. We change that and get 2 steals. And...no one mentions that.

The foul you reference should have been reviewed and a technical foul assessed. Those plays are now review able.

Re: Dukes Open as 1.5pt favorite over SLU

thanks for all the quick answers.  Great to see our fans stil on line and jazzed about today and the team in general.

Now, should I update the odds now, with a couple of bourbons (appropriately enough in New Orleans) in me, or should I wait?

They hung around because we missed 4 free throws, including 2 by Colter, and the front end of a 1 and 1 by Mason. That's 5 points that would have ended it earlier.

Yeah I saw that too. My wife was wondering why I was staring at my phone and muttering obscenities under my breath in the taxi.

I didn't officially submit a prediction but in my head I thought 18 would be the number. At this point, anything less than 18 would be a disappointment and i think 20 is within the realm of possibility if we shoot it well down the stretch
