Re: Duquesne favored by 3 over Davidson

We need  Micah & Colter now more than ever to hold this thing together so that next year doesn't feel like it starts on a downer. We also need Ferry to keep things from spinning out of control. For all of the problems I have with his style and decisions IMHO he has done a good job on finishing decently. Let's hope it stays that way.

Re: Duquesne favored by 3 over Davidson

My personal synopsis up to now...
-The Dukes are doing better than I thought they would at this point this year
-Ferry is a year behind in his team development
-We can't predict the future...but with the two leading scorers gone next year, will Ferry call it another rebuilding year and will we be starting from ground zero?
-Yesterday's game was going to be a tough one no matter what, the Dukes just couldn't match up against Davidson's motion offense - we just aren't a good match for that team.  I actually think we will match up better against GW
-Again, a good crowd, more students, and a loss in front of a good crowd and more students.  It is like we take two steps forward and one step back
-Time to get better vs. Dayton

Hard to blame this pathetic officiating crew when you got out rebounded by a "soft" Davidson team that prone to getting physically punished by other teams.  Granted the officials were clearly selected to protect Davisson from getting beaten physically as has happened this year.  Dukes lack of inside dominance made the difference.  Their smooth half court offense often put the Dukes in bad positions to clear the defensive glass.  Dukes also didn't stop the ball even when not in transition.  You can't let them start their offense at the foul line.  They collapse the defense then open up 3-point shots.  Stop the ball earlier and make the run their offense from further out.

Re: Duquesne favored by 3 over Davidson

FAM I agree with you the one aspect I find troubling is how fast Ferry abandons certain players and where that leaves them. If I'm a Jordan Robinson I'm out of here, suddenly Nyke doesn't see time, to play Colter and Mason 40 minutes yesterday was crazy. If the recruits on that bench aren't capable we are further behind than we all think. The lack of flexibility with subs is truly confounding. In his post game comments about Jackson's increased playing time he placed that totally on James's poor play. So Jackson can only play the 3 and no where else?

When Ferry was on 93.7 Friday morning he talked about players stepping up and filling the role left by Jones.  He mentioned Q but never mentioned James.  I thought it was just an accidental oversight.  Now I wonder???  We know that RE pushed players out and there were a lot of transfers, but your comment on Ferry and how players sit for a long time is interesting.  Other than the two senior guards, it isn't like the Dukes (albeit better than what we thought) are at a point where they are smashing everyone with their starting 5...6.  Heck, unless we win the league we won't be going to the NCAA and getting to the NIT will take a Miracle Run.  Again, this year is far from over but if he starts his Teflon crap about we don't have anyone and it is a rebuilding year next year he will have reinforced some of my thoughts on his ability which have been fading.  Related to that is the fact that he wasn't Amodio's first choice, it was the guy from Akron who wouldn't come here.  BTW, I just read some media information the other day where Akron is being looked at as a possible team to get to the NCAA.  Finally, I do NOT blame the loss yesterday on Ferry...that team is better than our team...and I won't get into well he recruited our team, etc.  We lost to a team that we aren't as good as.

Other than the Bonnie's and Dayton, I still think we can win a few more.

Seems to me you are right on about the affect McKillop's motion offense had on the Dukes' inside dominance and therein the reason for early foul trouble.  In postgame, Colter & Mason said they are "hard to guard because their players are constantly moving" (causing Dukes to reach in).  But, this is nothing new to anyone here.  This has been the M.O. for years vs not only McKillop but John Chaney, Chris Mooney and late Rick Majerus as well. Give credit to McKillop's coaching vs DU - with 20 victory seasons 22 times during his 26 year tenure.  Someone here said Dukes match-up better vs GW; don't know about that one but do know last meeting saw Dukes corral only 28 of 78 total rebounds.

Prove me wrong, but never been in the camp of "run & gun" style of play Ferry employs.

Re: Duquesne favored by 3 over Davidson

Hilltopper I couldn't agree more on the run and gun assessment. I might even be accepting of a high rate of 3's if so many of them weren't launched without 1 pass yet alone two or three. My frustration is that there seems to be no 3 that Ferry doesn't find acceptable.
