Justice Scalia loved a good argument; even his law clerks agreed that more than anything Scalia wanted them to challenge his views. Ultimately, isn't this platform also about ideas and challenging same? You raise a good point, I don't get it either. I guess sometimes recruiting is a crap shoot. Coaches sometimes miss the size of the fight in the dog. Micah was under recruited, but most would concede that Micah is the MVP and heart and soul of this team, and many coaches wish they had him. Since I love a good argument I'll jump in. Castro's play in the summer pro/am is light years away from anything we currently see. I totally understand those who blow off those games and the season he was the MVP was the year Huggins pulled his guys after the teams had been chosen and most games where played with 8 man roosters. I appreciate the devils advocate roll. As far as Castro is considered I DO NOT CARE WHAT HE DID IN HIGH SCHOOL! Everything that he has done goes out the window when he steps on the bluff. For this whole season he has done nothing. He is way to slow and plays selfish. This is not the right time in our program to hold onto his roster spot. Out of the respect for the school we should not be paying for his tuition to play so poorly, I truly think I would have a better impact on the game! He has really rounded out his game, toward being a complete player. Duquesne has been a good spot for him since it has allowed him to do more than just be a spot up shooter. Perhaps if he went to a bigger school the coach would use him only as a 3-point shooter. We are really going to miss Micah, that's for sure. He is instant offense. Consider for a minute, I'd trade a shooter, that is running point, for an Ajax anyday. I'd rather win with the point making 10 points and 14 assist, than a shooter with 10 turnovers, 4 assist, and 29 points and we are losing. Don't think for a second, this doesn't sounds like the Dukes? The best players for the Dukes are standing in the paint starving for the ball.

Case of Castro
Rene Castro was Mr Basketball, best in state his senior year, and highly recruited by not only Jim Ferry but Brad Stevens, Jamie Dixon and many more. (Can you name the last player Dixon recruited who ended up @ DU? Neither can I.) As we know, Brad Stevens won out on Castro and then promptly left to take the Boston Celtics top job. Who could blame him?
To add perspective, one year earlier coach Stevens, who had heard of Micah Mason but not seen him flew to Pittsburgh for a private Mason tryout. According to the local press, when Stevens left town he proclaimed the event as the best shooting exhibition he had ever witnessed - yet never did offer Mason!
Castro, who is now in his second year of practices, workouts and team building on the Bluff, including one pro-am summer of mvp proportion - can't seem to get off the bench. Where's the dysfunction; where's the disconnect?

On the flip side it appears that he is now thinking about every dribble. To say he has regressed is a classic understatement. It also leads me to a question between a few guys have a drink. How much do the Dukes scrimmage and just what does a practice consist of?

This whole idea of 'Look at what he did in high school' or 'He was the MVP of a summer league game' is easy to fall in love with. However this program is DESPERATELY fighting to be a quality organization and we simply can not afford to have players like this on our team. I love the two guards we have coming in. I know people hate the idea of a freshman or sophomore playing over a junior or senior because you want experience on the team.
However I would rather have Mike Lewis or Spenser Littleson or Josh Steel over Castro any day of the week
