Dukes gather quite a few A-10 awards: April Robinson - Co-POY

Dukes did very well in the yearly A-10 awards.

April Robinson:  Co-Player of the Year, First Team A-10, All-Academic A-10 Team
Dev Workman:  First Team A-10, 6th Woman of the Year, All Defensive Team
Kadri-Ann Lass:  All Rookie Team
Chassidy Omogrosso:  All Rookie Team

Biggest miscarriage of justice in the A-10 awards is that Kadri-Ann did not get the Rookie of the Year award.

Following her first season at Dayton, Lauren Cannatelli averaged 10.6 points per game as a freshman. She was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on two different occasions during the year.

=15pxLass, who won the A-10 Rookie of the Week award a program record setting seven-times, averaged 10.7 points per game which was second among all conference freshman. She led all A-10 first-year players in blocks (2.1 bpg) and field goal percentage (45.4 percent). Lass set the single-game program record with eight blocks against Massachusetts on Feb. 3rd.

Somehow I can't see how Lass' 7 ROW awards wouldn't have made her a lock for the the Rookie of the Year Award. over someone who had only two such awards.  Frankly I believe that many of the voters were tired of voting for Duquesne players for all of these honors (similar to what the Steelers of the 1970s experienced in getting into the Hall of Fame) and cast their votes for the Dayton girl.  My guess is that a winner of 7 ROW awards has never before been beaten by a player with only 2 ROW awards in the history of the A-10.  There should be a Congressional investigation!

I am surprised Coach Burt wasn't COY.   But I guess SLU coach is deserving.   I agree on Lass.

I believe had the Dukes beaten the Bonnies, Dan would have won the award.

Agree with godukes 1970 -  If there was ONE INDIVIDUAL Award that I thought a player would/should win -would have been Kadri-Ann getting Rookie of the Year -  Did find the fact that Workman was "6th Man of the Year" a little unusual - in that she WAS a Starter for a good deal of the year (I know she was coming off the bench at the beginning -  but do the voters place more emphasis on LEAGUE play when they vote on the Awards as opposed to the whole season?? (maybe this came back to haunt Kadri-Ann a little as some of the weeks she won the award were before league play - and while the St Louis coach is deserving maybe THAT gave him the edge over Coach Burt when the selection was made -  they DID tie for first in the league)

I did find the Workman 6th Woman of the Year award odd.  I agree that if Duquesne beats Bona, it's Burt's CoY award.

I thought the Rookie of the Year award was a toss-up between Lauren Cannatelli, Bria Stallworth, and Lass. I don't mind the Cannatelli pick at all.

In the interview that Coach Burt recently had, he said he was most surprised that Dev got the the 6th Women Award in as much as did not nominate her for consideration for the award - sort of like a surprise Christmas present under the tree.
