Saint Louis fires Jim Crews

77-56 record over 4 years; 22-42 in last two years.  Didn't waste any time after their loss this afternoon to GW to Pull the Plug.

Re: Saint Louis fires Jim Crews

It's reported that they told Crews that he would be terminated even before the team went to New York for the A-10 tourney. I understand that Crews still has 3 years remaining on his contract.

Re: Saint Louis fires Jim Crews

He was head coach for four years. The first two he got to the dance and the last two his team went 11-21. This was the first year his team consisted of all players he recruited. He has two years left on his contract at $850K per year. He won with Majerus' players (which he helped recruit as an assistant), but not with his own players. St Louis is committed to winning.

They ate 2 years, which is what I expect Duquesne will do. The one I'm really interested in is Memphis. Josh Pastner has really let that program decline, but they'll have to eat 10 million dollars to get rid of him. I can't imagine too many programs being able to swallow that.

Thanks, pressurecooker. You're right regarding 2 years remaining. Miklasz' article had it down that the 5 year contract was signed after the 2014 season, hence my 3 years remaining comment. But the article does provide some insight into the SLU process. http://www.101sports.com/2016/03/10/250651/

Re: Saint Louis fires Jim Crews

Isn't it amazing that the writer of the article questions SLU's commitment to have a top level Men's BB program on par with Xavier, Gonzaga, etc.? If SLU's commitment can be questioned, what does that say about Duquesne's commitment??

Re: Saint Louis fires Jim Crews

What I think you are seeing with this move by SLU is just how far behind Duquesne is. If reports are correct they are eating a contract that is around $200,000 less than a Ferry buy out. Duquesne is basically at ground zero. SLU has great facilities, a fan base and recent success. Other than Fordham I can't think of another program lower than ours in the A-10.
