Offline Welcome to the 2016 College Basketball Invitational Dukes fans! Dukes host Omaha Wednesday night at 7 PM at Palumbo. Offline Omaha don't know what they're in for. Offline Maybe the same thing will happen to them that happened to Kentucky when UK played Robert Morris a few years ago - when the UK players arrived and saw the facility - they might have said to Coach Cal "OK Jokes up where is the BUILDING we are REALLY playing in?" The Omaha team might look up see the 50 plus fans or so and say Where is the game really at?? Offline I hope Harper knows what he is doing. Omaha has a Sagarin rating of 155 compared to Dukes rating of 158. Omaha averages 84 a game, gives up 80 a game. They have 4 players that average in double figures. A possible 100-82 loss looms for the Dukes thanks to Ferry's brilliant defensive schemes. Offline I hope Harper knows what he is doing. A possible 100-82 loss looms for the Dukes thanks to Ferry's brilliant defensive schemes. They lost to NCAA bound Colorado by 5 in Boulder earlier in the year as well as losing to Big 10 Minnesota by 3 on the road as well. Safe to say they probably won't be intimidated by the raucous atmosphere at the AJP. Offline Ferry can never say he was not given every opportunity in the world to perform at Duquesne. This is a chance for him and his staff to start fighting for their basketball lives. There needs to be some fire, actual coaching and determination to win it all or this will be a big waste. Another early whimpy exit like the loss to LaSalle and his seat will become blistering hot, if it is not already. I still believe the best thing for this Program is for Ferry to be successful but his windows of opportunity to prove he can be the next level coach (per Greg Amodio) is closing. To say Ferry needs to take advantage of this opportunity is an understatement. Offline A losing record is still possible...... Offline I do still like the move of playing in any tourney. If there is a good outcome and we can string a couple wins together or even cut down the nets I think the general feeling about the program will be much much different heading into next season. Don't really see the downside besides cost and I like that Colter and Mason's careers don't have to end with that terrible La Salle loss. Duquesne was able to beat teams they should or teams more similar to them in terms of talent this year. The tournament field reminds me more of the caliber teams we played at the beginning of the season rather than some of the tougher conference opponents later on. I wouldn't be shocked to see us make a run and I wouldn't be shocked to see us go down in the first game. Oh well, lets see what happens. Nothing to lose at this point. Offline This is similar to football, where a 6-6 season gets you into a lower tier bowl game. Most teams accept the opportunity. From my perspective, I would have liked to see the first game be on the road and us win it and then the second game be a home. That would have led to a bigger crowd. I hope the staff really promotes this game. And it gives us one more chance to see the seniors play. Offline This is similar to football, where a 6-6 season gets you into a lower tier bowl game. Most teams accept the opportunity. . Offline I will be at the game with a fellow alum, but my pal Mysterio will not as he is travelling on business. Tickets are general admission priced at $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Also $5 a ticket for groups of 10 or more. Offline From what I can determine, the Omaha game will cost $35,000 less gate receipts, concessions, TV( I assume) and radio. Benefits include additional practice, publicity, and recruiting tool. DU could even turn a profit. Down side is another bad loss at home. Offline We could win, but, only if we cut this two senior guards play every moment, shoot every shot BS. Lewis is on the bench ave. of 22 minutes a game, though every time he is in there playing, we dominate. Also, Ferry's team sucked this year and he is playing for next year, right? So, play next years players now, Ferry has little to offer next year if this game is one more, Coulter and Mason, 40 minutes of chucking up 3's. If Lewis would have played 40 minutes per game this year, he would have ave. 18pt and 14 to 20 rebounds per game? BUT, if Micah and Derrick played 18 minutes per game, they would have ave. just 10-12 points and zero assist. Think about it? This game means less than nothing, if Ferry plays the same BS game we have been watching these last 12 plus games of losing. We lose on Wed. it comes down to Ferry can't coach and a losing season to boot. Offline Napa, I agree that Ferry should integrate more the other players during this tournament - if we stay in more than one game. However, I have to disagree as to Lewis' play this year. More often than not he was in foul trouble and had to be taken out and although he would show flashes he is far, far from a player who would average,18pts to 20 rebounds per game. He is decent defensively because of his size, but he doesn't not have good hands and is not really that athletic. That being said the Dukes should have tried to go inside more, either to Lewis or to Gill - who needed to be in the low post or inside the foul line much more. No matter, at the end of the day we are lacking in talent and coaching, period. Offline Back when we went on the Road in Ron's Era for the tournament - One of the years If memory serves me correctly Duquesne was the ONLY team to win on the road in the First Round - Gave Oregon a Hell of a Battle on their floor in Round 2!! Offline Back when we went on the Road in Ron's Era for the tournament - One of the years If memory serves me correctly Duquesne was the ONLY team to win on the road in the First Round - Gave Oregon a Hell of a Battle on their floor in Round 2!! I think he was hurting St.B. pretty much on the rebounds the first half last game, he had a big impact defensively. But not just focusing on Lewis, Ferry should be using the over all size of this team to their advantage they could have won more, Offline Napa, I agree that Ferry should integrate more the other players during this tournament - if we stay in more than one game. No matter, at the end of the day we are lacking in talent and coaching, period. Gill should be the go to set shot from the 3 range, he shows a lot of potential there, and it's easy to lose track of him on the court when he goes from inside the paint to backing out to the 3 line alone. That shot's probably there every trip down the court. Lewis would get into less foul trouble if he wasn't used as a traffic cone to free up the guards. And don't count him out of improving his game by next year. With a little more finesse he could be a force next year. just have to center the game around him a little more. Remember the RM game and the ST.L. game? They looked like the blueprint to winning this year. The last 12-plus games didn't resemble that kind of team-approach. Hopefully, we see more half-court offense that involves multiple-scorers, instead of 2 guards. Offline CBI: The Pay-As-You-Go Tournament

I was thinking that as well, nobody seems to care that there are almost 40 football bowl games now, which means that what, over 50% of 120 or so Division I programs get to play in some holiday game? And somehow someone makes money off this.
Can't believe I am asking this, but is the game on tv? I seem to remember watching Ron and boys play Montana in the CBI back in 11.

The 1-9 collapse has me deeply disappointed. Even winning 5 straight to win this thing won't change that.
Re: Duquesne hosting 1st round CBI game against Omaha
As I wrote before, I hope Harper knows his business otherwise the game could be a debacle.
