Question: Poll any group of 100 Steeler fans as to who is their current most hated and bitter rivalry, and I guarantee you 90% or more would say the Baltimore Ravens, not the Cleveland Browns.

Funny thing is, I have cousins in the Cleveland area and they are still such die-hard Steeler haters, it's almost comical.  They refuse to credit Pittsburgh for any of their success, their hall of famers, their enviable record etc, like any true Pittsburgh fan would give their grudging respect to the Cowboys.  None of it, they just say things like "F**k Pittsburgh" and cheer anytime the Steelers lose to anyone and email me when the Browns occasionally find the acorn and beat the Steelers.

Sound like anyone on this board?

. Steelers/Browns was most intense for those 10-15,000 fans who made the yearly trip up the Turnpike to get their tires slashed, and have trash thrown at them. The Steelers, and Browns have rarely been good at the same time, while the Steelers, and Ravens have won 4 Super Bowls over the last 16 years, and their battles have always been high stakes in the war for AFC supremacy. It's like it would have been if the Raiders had been in our division back in the 70s.

But, just like Pitt and Duquesne, during the 70s the Browns weren't a total dumpster fire. They had talent and often competed for the playoffs and even beat the Steelers in the playoffs a few times. They had good quarterbacks like Sipe and Kosar through the 90s. The rivalry ceased being any fun when they fired Belicheck, and left the league for a few years. They have been non-existent or total garbage for 20 years while the Steelers have excelled. Sound like any other rivalry we can think of. During the 70s and 80s we were mediocre and could beat Pitt on occasion.  For the last 20 years it's been utterly hopeless.

The Browns have never beaten the Steelers in the postseason. They've met twice. 1994, and 2002. The Bengals have never done it either, losing in 2005, and this past year. The Ravens are the only divisional rival to ever beat the Steelers in the postseason.

Steelers-Bengals is heating up big time. Losing twice to the lowly (for a year, anyway) Ravens really hurt Pittsburgh because it cost them at least one home playoff game.

After their last loss to the Steelers, it's going to get real ugly playing the Bengals this year.
