Offline Nice courtesy call from DU only to find out caller was none other than JJ. ( What a smart move having players call alumni and boosters, kudos to Harper). About his knee, it is yet to be 100% but range of motion improving. He is graduating then plans to take his game overseas; just in case that doesn't work out sounds like DU has job waiting for him in business. Obviously it remains to be seen whether or not Harper will be a success, but he is definitely a breath of fresh air. Seems to be much more engaged with the fans/alumni. Offline I've been saying, it's important for the new AD to move past the moldy oldies who had Amodio's ear. They've glommed onto enough bennies while helping steer the program into difficult waters. I've spoken to several staff members of the athletic department on occasion regarding the new AD and your very words "definitely a breath of fresh air" were frequently used by them to describe the new atmosphere in the athletic department. Offline Ever since I bought a ticket for a Duquesne game from UMass, I receive a yearly call from Derek Kellogg. It is, however, a robo call. This year an intern from the UMass Athletic Department gave me a real call. I told her I was a Duquesne fan and would always try to attend a Duquesne basketball game at UMass whenever one was scheduled. Glad Duquesne is using players rather than robo calls.

I believe that the hordes of alumni, season ticket holders and long-time supporters who have been driven away by Amodio and his "next level" straw house will welcome a reconnection with an AD who has a plan, and is more inclusive. In return, Mr. Harper will find good, loyal people who just want to love their program again. I don't know where you fit into that, Hilltopper. Given your reaction, I'd say you're one of the good guys.
Kudos to Mr. Harper, and to the student/athletes who are participating.

Yesterday I also received a call from a student intern (athletic trainer) working in the athletic department. She called to thank me for my continued support of Duquesne sports. Definitely a very nice touch. She was very upbeat on the improved performance of several of the Dukes' teams, especially the women's teams and the football team.
